But there were no hard numbers on how many criminals actually buy firearms at gun shows. A U.S. Justice Department study recently addressed that problem. The results: Fewer than 1 percent of criminals who used firearms purchased them at gun shows. The preliminary total of 600 firearms fatalities in 2000 is 25% fewer than in 1999, and reflects 58% drop since 1990.
