pantera: you will hear a lot of good and a lot of bad things about the NRA. But they are the only organization that has been fighting for gun rights for over 100 years and every adult in America knows who and what the NRA is. The NRA may make a lot of mistakes, but it does much, much more good to more than make up for any mistakes. Just as with any good person or organization. Without the NRA I truly believe we would have been disarmed long ago. My 21 year old daughter and I have been members for years and my 9 month old grandson has been a member since the year he was born. But if you truly want to help fight for preserving gun rights, don't stop with just joining the NRA. Join and actively work for other organizations also such as the Gun Owners of America, etc.

When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions.

You will get a lot of mail and phone calls soliciting funds. You will also receive videos then get billed for them months later.

They are the largest Pro-Gun Organization in the world.I feel no better bang for your buck can be found. I've been a Life Member since 1962, and make regular contributions-every cause needs funds to operate..Also check out your State Organization.I'm also a LIFE member of CRPA-California Rifle and Pistol Association. The Gunowners of America do an outstanding job as well, I've been a member for years.. The NRA is the best thing we have going for us. I admit, it is far from perfect, but I honestly, sincerely and completely believe that if it was not for them, we would not have the gun rights that we all enjoy today. Someday I hope to be a life member. Until then, they will continue to recieve my annual dues. I would strongly encourage any gun owner to join us, today!

The NRA is probably the only organzation on earth that can make liberal politicians lose control of their bladders merely by showing up at a session. That alone is worth the price of membership [:D]

Highball once again makes sense. No organization can give you ANY rights at all. Even our own constitution only protects rights which already exist. If your sole interest is in gun rights I'd suggest that you join the Gun Owners of America (I'm a member and very proud)who flatly boast "no compromises in 25 years". Of course I'd be far more impressed if they could boast "no politcal loses in 25 years". The NRA caters to a broad spectrum of members; some are strictly hunters, some match shooters, some are gun rights only folks, and othters (including myself) strongly support safety and educational programs like Eddie Eagle which I am very fond of and actively support. Any way you look at it, for $25 a year the NRA is a good investment, but I suggest that you join the GOA as well and cover all of your bases.

Why waste your money? It would be more helpful if you'd just make your check out to "Wayne's Retirement Fund." Until we get rid of him, the NRA is meaningless.

To add to Marks post, in regards to the Eddie Eagle program. When first introduced by the NRA, I requested enough material to give out at my Daughters school and to her GirlScout troops. They sent immediately, without hesitation or charge, enough info packs and training
aids for over 200 children. If only a small number benefited it was worth the effort. They also contacted me at a later date asking if I needed more material. At no time was I asked for any funds. What else could you ask for to help the kids?Bob

No other organization can make the political arena take notice like the NRA. Yes they have faults, no they are not perfect, (I'm still waiting to meet the person or organization that is) but they have taken everything dished out to them by friend and foe and kept the course. Eddie Eagle was mentioned, a great program for kids and free for the asking. Who is responsible for and the founder of most Hunter Safety programs? Who's traning is required in most states who require such for a conceal carry permit? Who sets the standards for training many law enforcement agencies use to qualify their officers? Who sets the standards by which formal competition is graded? Who took the heat when the mass killings at Columbine took place close to their annual meeting in Colorado? Who has defended every faction of shooting and hunting reguardless of its popularity? Who provided low interst loans for local club construction? Who makes low cost insurance available to clubs, instructors, collectors? I became a life member in 1974 and up graded over the years to benefactor. My sons graduation present from boot camp was a life membership. Yep, the NRA is not perfect but being a boy from Missouri, SHOW ME a better alternative for gun owners!

NRA and GOA both have their pros and cons, but THEY are fighting for OUR RIGHTS![:D] You have the option of donating, it doesn't have any effect on your membership! I also have a problem with the constant barrage from both organizations solicitating funds, but I've found if I send them a donation, however small, every time I buy a gun, I can live with shreading the donation forms.
Occasionally, I will send them something when the request is made, but you might want to inform your mailman you're joining because the volume of mail you'll be receiving will increase.[:0] You'll be well informed about all gun related issues, on both the national and state levels. If you want to keep your guns join NOW and give them as much support as your able!!!

Too bad you guys can't make the decision 'to keep you guns ' yourself.....instead of keeping then because some guy in 200 buck shoes is ' fighting for your rights ' in the hallowed halls of congress...

Ah well,I guess its entirely too much to ask of you to read the Constitution and think of the founders a little...men refusing to be disarmed by tyrannical overlords and their minions...

    Keep sending in the bucks,suckers....

Thank you for pointing out my faux pas in insinuating that any organization, including the NRA can grant rights. I should have said protected our gun rights. I believe this. It is my right to do so. I support the NRA. Thank God that some of us do support various organizations, or we would be using sticks and rocks to hunt and defend ourselves with.
I think that it is arrogance to think that no-one here is familier with the constitution and our founding fathers. One of my ancestors was a bodyguard to George Washington. I believe that defense of our rights is a battle with many lines. When one line fails, you fall back to another. The final line-" From my cold, dead hands....."
You fight fire with fire. You fight politicians with politicians.
Sit in your doorway with your gun and a copy of the constitution. Then Thank God that someone fought the political fight so that you could do so. Just my final thoughts on the subject. Tear it apart if you will. That is also your right.

I am not happy with the leadership of the NRA, but I continue to belong because they are the largest & most recognized organization fighting for our Constitutional rights.

However, I also support Neal Knox's Firearms Coalition, & believe that, for their size, they are far more effective in preserving our rights.

My gun and my copy of the Constitution was brought to me by men..men who gave it all, starting with the Founders.

Those men fought and died so you can pretend that by 'compromising' you and the nra are 'fighting for all our rights'......drive on,but don't expect kudoes for doing it with your eyes closed.

Your brand of 'men' barter away our Rights every day..a little here,a litte there.'The Political Fight',in action.

Our guns are still not confiscated because of the number of men willing to resist such a move..and nothing at all to do with the NRA.Sorry to bust your bubble, bubba.
All the NRA has done is slow the inevitible...and helped ease the burdens of restrictions and bans onto our backs.
