After reading some posts on Glock malfunctions and the availability of free upgrades, I sent for the kit that included four or five parts and installed them. The firing pin safety was buggered much like the crosspin latch on SAA Colts and Rugers which work similarly. It's possible that with a bit more burring on the safety or a little rust in the slide,it could stick and kill off the safety feature. The new safety had a stronger spring and worked more positively. None of the other pasts showed any wear but were replaced with the new parts anyway. The G19 is an early one with about 3000 rds through it. While this pistol has never hinted about any malfunction, the burring was clearly one in the making.

I've heard you have to send you weapon to Glock to have the upgrades done. They sent the parts to you? How did you go about it? I've got an early model 19 and a later model 17 that I'd like to be upgraded.H.

I had no malfunctions and was perfectly happy with my G19. A discussion of Glock on another website mentioned that an early s/n could qualify you for the upgrade. The kit parts are: trigger & trigger bar assy, firing pin, firing pin safety with spring, extractor and extractor spring follower button.Glock doesn't advertize the upgrade but if you call service they will offer it to you provided your s/n qualifies and you send it in or have a certified Glock armorer install the parts.I told the man I operated an Army division ordnance small arms repair unit at one time and felt that I could properly install the parts. He agreed and sent them to me along with an afidavit card to certify that the upgrade had been performed on that s/n .

v35,What number did you call for Glock? I was told by a Glock certified armorer to send my model 19 in to have it done. He made up a list of upgrades to be done. He even suggested I send in the pre-ban mags I've got. I didn't ask him if they would send the parts to us. I'd rather have them send us the parts so I don't have to UPS my gun. Please forward the phone number along. Thanks,H.

Herby Jr The telephone number is 1-770-432-1202 and ask for service; then ask about the available upgrades for your serial number. Mine is HP834US bought in '89. I may have been lucky in convincing a friendly service rep to send the parts. Incidentally, a new mainspring & guide assembly came today, also gratis. That's $88.10 total per my 1993 parts list. Please list the upgrades you were advised of.

V, My model 19 is an older model. I just got it a couple of weeks ago though and have not yet had a chance to fire it. As soon as I got it, I sent it to the Glock armorer for extended slide stop and mag release as well as a 3lb trigger connector. When I got it back, he gave me a "Glock Pistol Inspection Form". There are several points that the weapon either passes or fails on. My 19 passed on everything except for issues needing upgraded which are as follows:Firing pin upgradeExtractor upgradeFiring pin safety upgradeLocking block pin upgradeHe said the pistol is in excellent condition and has probably had less than 50 rounds fired through it. That was good to hear because I bought it used. He said the only things it needed were the above listed upgrades.I'll have to call my armorer to see if he will do the upgrades if we can get Glock to send the parts.H.

    H. I didnt know in advance of specific safety upgrades other than what I read on another site where a freebe 5 piece upgrade was said to be available. When I called Glock and gave them my serial number they sent me the whole kit and kaboodle including a new slide spring assembly. What is the locking block pin upgrade?I just got a neat belt clip by Jentra that replaces the locking block pin.

V, I don't know what the locking block pin upgrade is either. I just took the term off of the report that my Glock armorer filled out on my 19. I'll let you know if they send us the parts or if I have to send the weapon in.H.
