Some American soldiers frustrated!

Bamiyan, Afghanistan-AP -- Some highly trained U-S troops are battling frustration in Afghanistan.

A medic with the Army's Special Forces in Bamiyan Province says he's no warmonger, but he came to Afghanistan to "kill al-Qaida and Taliban." But he's not even allowed to "hunt them."

Afghans who have fled one area in the province say ex-Taliban fighters have pushed government forces out. They're burning schools, imprisoning teachers and restoring harsh punishments such as amputation.

The government's commander has asked the Special Forces for help, but they say they've been told to stay out of it. And that's frustrating.

Still, there is plenty to do. The Americans are seizing weapons, documenting mass graves, clearing land mines and helping deliver food to residents. And they say that's worthwhile.

Just when you think your out of the woods,a tree falls on you!

Afghanistan is a place better off as a world trash dump. Move everyone out and dig the hole, one landfill coming right up.

If the rest of the world gave a $%^^ they could be the policemen, maybe the Pentagon learned something from Bosnia. I think the people of that country should defend themselves and have no problem with the CIA issuing a M-16 to every female in that country and say 'Make your own home, it's your darn kids'.

In case anyone forgot, this "backward" country kicked the heck out of the world's then-greatest superpower (England) as well as the Soviets! They have got to be tough.

It's not what you know that gets you in trouble, it's what you know that just ain't so!

Am I missing something, or where are all our European "allies" (excluding the Brits) who gave us so much verbal support when this effort was launched? Surely they could contribute something to the program . . . if they weren't so busy criticizing us for having the death penalty and being willing to knock off a mass murderer w/ NBC weapons.

An American commander said on TV this week that they took a lesson from the Soviets' heavy losses in Afghanistan and chose a different battle plan purposely.

As for the troops, I can understand their frustration in this kind of "war on terror." Terror doesn't line up on the other side of the DMZ and you can't shell them, man to man. Their training needs some appropriate modification, so they don't pop from the lack of a well-defined enemy to fight. In that sense, the Gulf War soldiers were "luckier." In fact, I have a feeling that any frustration these guys currently have will dissipate if we go against Iraq.

What also must be remembered is that the Afgans just have to keep the war going, just like the Vietnamese did, just like we did in the Revolutionary War, that alone will eventaually cause us to walk away. I believe that the military people in the top ranks, including those at the Pentagon, know that it would be unwise, to have another Vietnam.
