Anybody remember the Herter's catalog? God that brings back memories, when I was a kid we ordered everything from them, my dad ordered guns, we ordered hackle and such for tying flies, traps, etc.
I still have a herters scope on one of my guns! Damm those were the days, I used to love to look at that catalog and dream of the things I wanted to buy! Guess im a little warped though most of you guys were probaly looking at the old mans Playboy! L.O.L.
Back then we didn't have all the outdoor supply catalogs that we have to day we had Herter's! Genuine Hudson Bay three point beaver quality!!! I never new what that meant but they always rated stuff by the beaver point system.
No Harleyman!!! Not those type of beavers!!!

I've got a Herters press, powder measure, dies, scale and a six gun cabinet.
A pair of his low safari boots killed my feet until I gave up on them and spent a day wading in Maine trout streams. They lasted about 20 years till my wife made me chuck em. I'd love to find another pair.
His beaver value was the articles'worth in beaver skins in indian trade.

I bought a Herters knife in 1973. This was a sheath knife with about a 3 inch blade with an unusual curve to it. It was a great knife. I took it up to the wilderness in British Columbia that summer. The leather sheath had no strap or snap to hold the knife in, it was just held in by compression. I was chasing a wounded moose on the path along the river and the knife fell out of the sheath and I never found it. I guess it needed a strap. But it was a great knife, wish I still had it.

I've got an original 1968 Herter's Catalog, just send them $ 125 and they'll mail you a S&W 29, in the wooden presentation case, your choice of barrel length.

    I'm getting old.

Allen Griggs: I think I have one of the knives you're referring to: It has an ellipsoidal blade about 5 inches long with cuts in the back of the blade for thumb grip and a curved wooden handle that fits my hand very nicely. It's up in my workshop in the barnyard. Funny thing: the case disappeared a few years ago. Tell you what; I'll flip you to decide who gets the case or knife to have the complete outfit. Sorry, you lost. I'll e-mail you as to where to send the case. Regards, posh

Hey guys, don't forget what a dollar was worth back then. Sure a box of .22s was .75 but that's the equivalent of $4.50 in todays dollars
The model 29 for $129 would be over $1000 in todays dallars!! I loved the Herters Catalogue and read them in High school till the covers fell off. I thought the Herter's Power Mag pisol in .44? herters looked AWESOME!!
