I thought everybody knew that NPR was Jewish run, taxpayer financed.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with "Jewish" influences. I've known plenty of conservative Jewish people in my life. Whenever I relieved a certain individual at the end of their shift, the duty vehicle was always tuned to NPR. I like Garrison Keilor simply because I'm from Minnesota and I enjoy Minnesota humor donchya know. I also enjoyed some of the late night early-20's radio broadcasts like "Theater of the Mind" which really helped during late shifts. After "Theater of the Mind" they moved into what they called "news". It was never US news. It was always "world news" and they only covered stories where they felt they could add a strong socialist overtone. Put simply, "yes" NPR is a socialist propaganda machine.

It's "National Propaganda Radio" or NPR for short. Their new name is PRI "Propaganda Radio International". That's my opinion of their programming.

I can't remember ever being able to go more than 5 minutes listening to NPR and not getting infuriated. Where does the Constitution talk about funding propaganda? You mean the Tenth Ammendment? Right.Fitz

Not trying to cause a major stir, but I have heard several good reports on NPR. I haven't heard any regarding gun control, but I have heard plenty where they interviewed both sides of an issue, such as with profiling of Foreigners at airports. True, it may be liberal, but it sure beats the hell out of the one-sided garbage we get from CNN and local stations. I have a close friend who works as a co-anchor for a local TV station. He brought up a very good point... Ever notice how national news is the same whether it's on CNBC or CNN or Local? Ever notice how all local stations in your area play the same news reports? They all come from the same source. NPR may be liberal, but at least they loosen the blinders a bit.PS:What does Juan Williams look like? When I lived in DC I lifted weights at the YMCA with a guy named Juan Williams. Not sure if it's the same one with a show on NPR, but I saw him on CNN a few times. If it is him, he sure didn't seem very liberal when we talked.

niklasal - You're spot on with your observations about NPR. IMO they make no effort to hide their biases and so you, as a listener, know that if the subject is primarily of a political nature, you're going to be hearing the DNC party line on the topic. That aside, they do go into far more detail and depth on non-political topics that I often find to be quirky, fun and completely different from the predictable drivel from the major networks. They also do great book reviews. I discovered James Ellroy's "An American Tabloid" through an NPR review as a matter of fact. (One of the best novels I ever read. Ties the Mob/Kennedys/Hoffa/Bay of Pigs/Howard Hughes all together in a great read.) I think you just tune them out when they start drooling about Hillary Clinton or "...more funding for _________________ (fill in the blank) studies at our colleges and universities."

NPR and PBS have a self-image that tends to put them in league with liberal intellectuals. They are proud of their emphasis on brain food, the fine arts, history, and so forth. The original concept was public funding -- i.e., donations and gifts, which supposedly fly in the face of capitalism and commercial control. Of course, I imagine that by now a great percentage of their funding comes from corporate sponsors. Even so, the liberal/socialist taint has remained a part of the core philosophy. I do enjoy some of the intellectual discussion and news reporting and the level of detail which they are willing to believe American listeners can handle. But my propaganda radar is on whenever I listen, filtering out the bleeding heart stuff and the liberal assumptions they so often make about their audience's sympathies.

I Like the different music that you can get on National Peoples Radio and when they delve into politics and news I just consider it opposition research. If you know thier arguments it's that much easier to turn them back on them.

NPR definitely leans left BUT - They're the only radio station that offers in depth coverage of news stories - more than five minutes. Taxpayers pay about 30% of the bill while corporate and listeners pay the rest. Around here we get BBC from midnight to 5:00 AM. It's interesting to get the Brits view of us. From what I can tell they love the USA.As far as liberals on the air go - I think you're always going to get a few more in the media . What they have in numbers they usually lack in common sense. You boys know that. So if you have NPR in your neighborhood, listen in. They are interested in what you think. I have heard a few fair pro gun interviews in 6 years of listening. Can you listen to Rush for six years?
