Would You Donate A Gun To The Goverment?

Shortly after Pearl Harbor someone "from the Army" as grandma put it, came knocking on her door and asked if she had any guns to donate to the War. She said that all she had was a top-break Harrington & Richardson 38 S&W "pea-shooter" but they could have it if they wanted. They accepted and gave her a receipt for it and then went to the next house on the block. She assumed that she would never see that gun again but lo and behold after the war "the Army" knocked on the door and returned it. The man told her it was used by the MP's while gaurding homeland bases. (Perhaps B.S. to make granny happy but that's what he said)Would you give them one today? And if so, which one?I still have that gun by the way, nickel plated, double action, automatic ejectors, plastic? handles, back cylinder stamped 357.

Hell no. The government has plenty of guns, and if they don't that's even more reason why I should hold onto mine. Back then, maybe. Today, no way..

No!!! How many millions did they spend on the humanitarian Afganistan effort? I think they would have to ask Egypt or one of the many other countrys my tax dollars are going to, to give them some old guns first.

I was watching a documentary on the Muslim rebels and their war against the Philipine government, they have been waging war in the island of Mindanao (hope that spelled right) for 20 years.I was amazed to see them carrying M1 Garands and M14's, not to mention M16.Why give the government anything we pay taxes and they just squander it, on giveaway programs.I am surprised your grandma got this pistol back.

I think more appropriate may be, we'll they give/loan us (The American people) a gun? If it is war and we are in danger wasn't the second ammendment (not to mention the preamble of the constitution)specific in providing for a common defence and having th epeople armed?Andy

You got the question bass-ackwards, should be 'Will the government donate a gun to you'. In this era of random terror, the govt. should be arming all of its citizens so that they may form the last line of defense (after the FBI/CIA, NORAD, FAA etc. fail to keep aircraft out of buildings). If that is the question, I'll take a Ma deuce, thank you very much mr. govt.

So many guns to buy. So little money.

No I don't have the receipt, we assume it was lost before the war was even over.Realistically granny was around for two World Wars and she may have her facts messed up. Coulda been #1, you know how grannys are. She passed away in '82 at age 89.

Times change. I may be taking the idea too far but bear with me. If it ever gets to that point we won't be sitting in front of a computer, we'll be in a foxhole and our wife will be donating a gun or two.If the goverment were to ever get that deep in doo-doo to be door knocking for a donation, it would seem un-patriotic not to donate sumpin' seeing as how most of have at least a bakers dozen within arms reach.O.K., so if that's the case whaddaya gonna give them booger? Dang, uh well, hmmmmm, Winchester Trapper in .44 magnum.

My dad was a senior in high school in 1942. He donated a new 94 Winchester in30-30. They told him it was going to England. He inlisted in June of 42 and spent the next 4 years in the Air Force. He had a deferment because he was a farm boy, but he went anyway. I'm proud of what he did. That was a different world then.
