If this guy put the hitch on as a joke then haha but if he is planning on using this then this is the reason why I wish D.O.T would inspect anyone pulling a trailer!

BTW, I did not take the pic but stole it from facebook [8D]

I would like to think it is a joke, but I remember one overwhelming truth I have learned:

    People are stooopid. [8D]

Just out of view is an "Obama in 2012" bumper sticker (right next to their "Obama in 2008" bumper sticker).
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I'll admit my ignorance, I'm not a tower, I realize the ball usually goes on the bumper, but what makes this arrangement so bad?
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

The square end is designed to slide into a robust receiver. Which is bolted or welded to the frame.

This arrangement will just pull the bumper off. Which is typically easy to do, by design.

It may even be illegal to mount a ball to the bumper anymore. I haven't seen it done in years.

Not only that but, there is nothing keeping the whole thing straight. Just the one bolt in the middle.
That thing would be a swinging.

At that angle I'm not sure it could swing much, and I've seen a whole lot of trailers pulled by the ball attached to the truck bumper. Is this more likely to pull off the bumper due to the extended angle. (Like a receiver) I would guess a landscape trailer or other light weight trailer would be fine and probably ahs been pulled by that truck more so than it being a joke of some kind. FWIW

I thinks safety chains are a bit of overkill. Nothing that a couple of good ropes couldn't handle.

He mounted it wrong. The hitch should be mounted underneath the bumper, not on the top! [:o)]

Any kind of tounge weight will be mutiplied with the leverage exerted on that, that bumper would twist and break right there. Seeing that the ball is rusty tells me hebhasnt used it in awhile and I hope it stays that way. I can get put Out Of Service for a marker light, guys like this need to feel the wrath of the D.O.T if pulling a trailer with unsafe equipment lime that.

Its mounted right. Put it under the bumper and you could damage the lip.

I see now what his problem was. The ball height when mounted on the bumper was too high for the trailer and he needed to lower it. What he should have done was leave the ball on the bumper and just lower the rear tire pressure.
