Awakening a sleeping giant.........

...and filled him with a terrible resolve. The perpetrators of thee heinous attacks this morning are going to learn the same lesson learned by the Japanese after Pearl harbor. Admiral Yamamoto knew whereof he spoke then, and it bears repeating now.Yamamoto spent time in the US and was awed by our resources and potential. He liked our country and was opposed to war with the US. But he planned the Pearl Harbor raid under orders. Learning that the raid came before the formal declaration of war and that no carriers were destroyed, he reportedly said, "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve."Yamamoto was himself targeted and killed later in the war. An intercepted and decoded message provided the exact time of his arrival at a forward air base (Bouganville, I believe). A flight of P-38 Lightnings out of Guadacanal, at the extreme edge of there range, with only minutes over the target area, caught the notoriously punctual admiral and shot his plane down. The wreckage remains where it fell in the jungle to this day. This is war. These cowardly bastards can run, but they can't hide. We will find them and we will destroy them, and anyone who shields or supports them as well.redcedars[This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-11-2001).][This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-11-2001).][This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-12-2001).][This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-12-2001).]

Its still early, but this one sure looks like bin Laden's handiwork. Remember that before the attack on the Cole, his people hit 2 embassies in Africa almost simultaneously. I don't think it is a coincidence that this attack had at least 3 targets hit nearly simultaneously. In fact, it may well be that another attack was thwarted somehow by the passengers or crew of the 4th hijacked plane which crashed outside Pittsburgh. The attack on the Pentagon appears to have missed the bullseye too, and less than completely successful as a result.Let's not lose focus. We want the people directly responsible, and their helpers and protectors. Remember that many people of Arabian descent reject violence, and that the Muslim religion is perverted by the extremist terrorists to suit their own purposes. But we will find these people. It is quite impossible to keep the details of an operation this big secret after it occurs. The situation in Israel has proven that tit for tat retaliation simply generates more volunteers for extremist groups. The most effective counter-terrorism tactic they have used is the identification and elimination of terrorist leaders. We should do the same, without anger and without mercy, the same as we would rabid dogs. Right down to the very last one.redcedars

Looks like retaliation in Kabul already. I hope we are attacking government buildings, military installations and terrorist training camps.[This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-11-2001).]

MSNBC is reporting the fighting in Kabul is NOT an attack by the US.[This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-11-2001).]

redceders,As in my other reply, we can't go in and save the whole world. We can support groups (sure I hear some say that we tried that in VN) but that is the way to go. Sometime it works and sometime it does't. I hope we are getting better at this. You mentioned Israel, as I did in my other message. The thing is they are feared (at least on a large scale). We are so diplomaticaly correct that others laugh at us.How many anti-gun folks are in NYC now?Jeff

I heard the former mayor of New York City, Ed Koch, this afternoon. I thought he gave a concise answer as what should be done regarding this. He said, "when we find out which country is harboring these terrorists, a message should be sent to the government like this: 'you have five days to produce the living participants in this attack on our country. At the end of five days if you have not produced them then the populations of your largest cities will be reduced significantly.'You know, we have never used the neutron bomb before .............?

cbxjeff, they laugh at us alright, especialy when we take them into our universities and educate them,and/or hire them to work here,so they can send money back to their countries to support terrorists. It is the plan ,and these people who do this seem like fine examples of why we cannot just kick their * out!! Understand this, these perverted beliefs do not usualy show through their sweet, humble personality

I just don't think any of us appreciate how terrible the next few days are going to be. If you are angry now, just wait until you have been submerged in horrific details of the suffering of the innocent brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, neighbors and friends who were terribly injured today, or who died, or who will die horrible lingering deaths in the rubble of one of our proudest symbols of American achievement. Wait until you hear the stories of courageous rescuers who died trying to save others, even perhaps of the crew and passengers of one plane who somehow managed to thwart the worst ends of the terrorist criminals. Wait until it appears the bastards did it with nothing more than brass balls, box cutters and familiarity with the system. Wait until you are ready to burst because we CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO GET THE BASTARDS NOW!The world changed today, and far more than we know. The hatred and fear of the terrorists has changed it. Our hatred will change it, our rage will change it, and our fear will change it.Even in our righteous fury, for the sake of our own humanity, we must not become as evil as that which we hate. But if we are to survive, we have to find these murderers and punish them without mercy. The rest of the world has not yet begun to appreciate what the consequences of our wrath will be, either. They will learn.redcedars

I'm a rather level headed person in most cases, but today I saw the face of Evil, and I grew willing to fight. One scene they showed again and again, was that of a celebration going on in Pakistan. Children there were cheering and eating cake. The face of one woman, an incredibly ugly woman, stuck out. She was teaching the children to cheer the deaths of innocent civilians in the U.S. That woman had the face of evil, and I hope to see her on the news again someday... after we've taken the moment from her. I'd like to see her in pain... and trying to explain to those children why it's different. Hmmm... I'm more angry than I thought.I hope that the U.S. doesn't lose track of it's targets in making sure we're getting the correct son of a * this time. My feeling is that we should let loose on all of the enemy's of the U.S. at once. If we've limited it down to 3 people capable and willing to cause harm to innocent people in the U.S., why decide? If each option is willing and able to hurt us, why not just take out all 3 options? So much for level headed... like many... I've suffered personal losses today.christian

Ever since the administration of Wimpy Carter, we have identified the players and backed off for fear of offending world opinion. But we know who they are. Most have publicly announced their intention to harm us, many have acted on that intent. I agree wholely with Chris - we don't need to distinguish *exactly* which group did this. That is defense. It is passive. What we must do is identify all these groups and end their ability to harm us or others. Every one of them. Permanently. Nothing less. We need to make them quake at the mere thought of antagonizing - much less harming - us again. We should embrace the spirit and motto of the JDL: "Never again!"

I'm with you Christian. When I saw all those people, kids included, celebrating in the street, it made me want to see all of their blood spilled on the streets. What have we done to them? They are taught from day one to hate America just for the sake of hate. I have never heard a valid reason why. They interviewed one Palestinian, or maybe an Iraqi, what's the damn difference, and he praised the attacks and said he thought there should be more. It angers me so intently that all I can think of is how nice it would be to torture and kill that SOB! I know it's wrong to have such bad thoughts, but we cannot stand idly by while these people go on with there agenda of hatred and terrorism. As for worrying about killing "innocent" civilians, after what I saw on the news yesterday I believe there are NO innocent civilians. Those kids would just as soon perforate you with an AK-47 as an adult. I know it's not their fault as they are taught to hate from the start, but it still doesn't make them innocent. Tommorrows' terrorists, not innocent children, are what we saw celebrating in the street today.
Better to have and not need, than need and not have.

The time for political correctness is over. The time for constant appeasement of our allies and friends is over. We have been attacked. We must defend ourselves, and if others want to help us, fine. If not, get out of the way. War is not politically correct. Toesies will be stepped on. They will pay for what they've done, as surely as Japan paid. Let the terrorists and those who harbor them know: We are on our way. We will level your country on a scale, I believe, that makes Desert Storm look like a day in the park.

Great point. The people who so heavily protest guns will have to address this situation. The terrorist, not the weapon, did this. Our enemy has proven what we have said all along. christian

I keep hearing the politically correct term"Brought to justice". That conjures up visions of these people being arrested, jailed, tried,(maybe in a State that doesn't have a death penalty), convicted and then sitting on death row for 20 years while the conviction is appealed. I DON'T THINK SO!!!!This scum should be hunted down like the beasts they are and EXTERMINATED ON THE SPOT!We need to locate EVERY hideout, EVERY training camp, EVERY individual and BOMB THE BASTARDS BACK TO THE STONE AGE!!!Mudge

Anybody hear Jerry Falwell on Fox last night? He said exactly the same thing. Eliminate the terrorists and anybody who hides or supports them. I think his exact words were "take 'em out."All right, Jerry. My kind of man-of-the-cloth.

Christian B,Just think if just one person had a side arm on each of those planes. Sure, some innocents might be killed, but the bottom line would have changed big time. I walked into a bar in Laramie, WY last month with a friend showing me the town. More than half of the folks in there had a revolver on their hip. I ask her how many times this place had been held up in the last 10 years, and she just laughed at me!Jeff
