Kindergarteners trade in their fake guns for nonviolent toys

Martin Pati?o, 5, drops his toy gun into a garbage can Wednesday at Alisal Community School in Salinas, where a 'peace toy trade' was held for kindergarten-aged children from four classes.
DETAILS
Alisal Community School's "peace toy trade" Wednesday was the first of its kind at the school. Principal Ricardo Cabrera said the school plans to repeat the event.
Five-year-old Martin Pati?o threw his toy machine gun into a trashcan marked "armas no," Spanish for "no guns," and he promptly picked up a coloring book to replace it.
Martin was one of about 30 Alisal Community School kindergartners from four classes Wednesday who traded in their fake guns for gentle toys such as stuffed animals and Play-Doh.
Kindergarten teacher Myriam Kennelly came up with the idea of the "peace toy trade" as a way of letting kids and parents know that guns of any kind are not permitted at the school.
"We just want parents to be aware," Kennelly said. "They think that the gang problem begins in the high school, and that's not true."
About 100 kindergartners assembled in the school's cafeteria for the peace toy trade.
In preparation for the event, students used crayons to write anti-gun messages on a roughly 15-foot paper banner that also said, "Las Pistolas No Mas! Queremos La Paz" or "No More Pistols! We Want Peace."
"I just wrote 'pistols are bad,' now can I read a book?" said Moises Alvarez, 5, in Spanish after writing on the banner.
The anti-gun, no-violence message is just as important to parents as it is to youngsters, Kennelly said.
Many parents were active in organizing the toy trade and took an interest in the message, she said.
Teachers and parents bought the alternative toys.
Brian Jones, owner of Salinas gun store Trigger Hill Trading Post, applauded the toy-gun exchange.
"Personally, I think it's a great idea," Jones said at his store on South Main Street.
"There are too many kids that think guns are toys."
Its not bad enough that they are pushing the liberal views down the kids throats, but they also do it in Spanish. You are in the US now, learn English!!!!
Need to go vent now.

That really pisses me off![:(!] I am glad I'm not a parent of a kid that goes to that school. The school should be thankful too, they would have their hands full.

I can tell ya not living only about 30 min. from there; in that town it's not a bad idea.
I know what you're thinking, but let me give you a little background of Salinas.
At the risk of sounding racist, Salinas is a Farming community that is about 85% hispanic, I could not begin to figure out how many are illegal. The city of Salinas is also a hot bed of gang activity
that is in plane site 24/7. This may sound hard to believe but most parents have to educate their kids about the gangs how they work why they shoot each other etc. Chances are if you wear a red or blue jacket at night or day you will most likely be stabbed, shot, or if your lucky just beat to a bloody pulp. With all this going on in there life. A toy gun especial if your 10-12 (which gang members are that age sometimes, is not a good idea.

Somewhere in CA, Dianne Feinstein is cackling right now...[V]
"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate for an outright ban, picking up all of them, "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in," I would have." -Sen. Dianne Feinstein
Has anyone else actually thought about the above quote of a statement made by Sen. Dianne Whinestein? By her own words she cleary no longer considers herself an "employee" of Mr. & Mrs. America. Instead with her attitude revealed in her statement she now considers herself to be the "boss" and the citizens to be her subjects. Does this make anyone other than me mad?
Quote "When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions."
Why is she so concerning to me? Even the most Liberal politicans who support gun-control at every juncture waffle at actually advocating confiscation. But the Senator is totally upfront with her desire for it.
If she was less powerful, it wouldn't be an issue. But in California and certain parts of the Senate, she has immense pull.

Forgot to add, many of the gang Famileys bring up there kids to live the gang life, and gang way of living.
So let them kill each other off.

The more and more fast tracked immigrants and illegals populate our country the more and more the burning desire for freedom and self govern within the general population fades as a dying ember. Our new populations are used to being told what to do and very rarely are properly educated about the spirit that makes America America. Don't want to offend any new immigrant with American history and culture.[:(]
