I got in here a little late 84 but yes, you won't bend cast iron. While you have many good suggestions here, , I have a question: Why do you need copious amounts of steam? Unless you want a huge change in humidity in your house is a short time (and that's not good for wooden furniture)hot water on your stove will do it. It doesn't have to boil, it just takes longer to evaporate. You have 3-4 months of winter ahead!
Thank you Jeff. Just looking for a modicum of steam off the wood stove, in order to counteract the drying effect of the woodstove.

Wash the dog. Set dog over by the wood stove to dry. Soon your entire house will be humidified with the smell of freshly washed dog.
Warning- do not try this with a cat if you have a high deductible medical plan.
Okay, I've got the dog, freshly washed. Trying to suspend him over the woodstove, via various rope loops, straps, etc. He does not appear to be very happy. (But) everything appears to be going okay. I guess when/if he pees, that will help with the whole humidity thingee??
84, not to paraphrase an old song, but time is on your side. As I mentioned, the water doesn't need to boil. The evaporation rate is proportional to the water temperature (as well as the house air condition). I'm not the guy that first said "slow and easy" but it has merit. Get an inexpensive temp/humidity meter (I got one a couple of years ago at WalMart) and put it 10+ feet from your stove and watch your progress. Good luck.
