I have a printed document that I need to save as a pdf on my computer. If I scan it is saved in my doc. file as a picture. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks guys,

What scanner, what OS, what software to scan with.

If you need an editable pdf, you will need software with optical character recognition ocr and a pdf converter. I am not familiar with what works for this.

Adobe has some pdf software, but again, not sure what is the best or easy to use.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a HP laserjet pro to scan onto my laptop which is running Win 8.1. The printer software does the scanning. What bothers me is that I think I have done this before. I can't open the scanned doc on the computer and do a "save as".

My scanner has a drop-down menu so I can choose what type of file I want to save (.jpeg, .pdf, .doc, etc.). Are you sure yours doesn't have that option when you click "save"?

This is the answer. You have to change the file type you want it to save. My brother has different settings for different docs. Pictures it saves as a JPG, text it can save as a PDF or perform OCR and save it as a text file or word doc.

    Try this....

Got it. .pdf wasn't a must and a few other formats were OK. Yes, though the printer didn't have options when scanning, once scanned I had the option to do a "save as". I selected .jpeg and everything is now OK. You guys are the greatest!

    Thanks everyone,
