I guess they have no sense of humor. He just wanted to preserve history.

It would be nice to see this Panther G put in top operational condition including the 75MM for use in movies etc and let this old collector get a cut.
The 88MM was also very nice.

this was no secret and the old guy had been know to drive that Panther around on occasion

There is (I believe) only one fully functioning Panther on the planet and this is still capable of being restored to 100% condition.
It is a special piece of military history but if treated like the confederate flag will be scrapped so we can pretend everyone always held hands and sang in perfect harmony

Truth be told this is probably their motivation for seizing it. Someone in power probably heard about this guy's tank and decided they wanted the piece for Gov. display, so why pay for it when you can declare it illegal and seize it. [;)]

Sure sounds underhanded to me. He thought he was in compliance with the laws of his country and made no secret of his collection.

It doesn't smell right at all.

one thing i took away from the article was 1 expert said a piece wasn't completely de-militarised.

What I'd want to know is who said it was properly demilled in the first place? If these elderly military machines were registered as claimed, what inspections and certifications were involved? Did he think he was good to go because the concerned authorities said he was back when he met the legal requirements?

Too little detail here for a solid opinion. But since he was very open about his collection over a period of years, I tend to lean in the direction of he's getting royally screwed.

Nothing to look at here, just another government stealing one of its citizens assets.
