I have heard about this book for awhile, that it is required reading at West Point. Recently I heard that there is a movie version with Sam Elliot. I cant find it anywhere to rent or buy. If you've read the book or seen the movie what did you think?

According to Internet Movie Database, www.imdb.com, it was a
TV movie, mini-series, released in 1976. Barnes & Noble, or
other large book stores should have the book.

I was given the book quite a while ago and have read it twice.
Excellent book. Takes place from WW 1 and up. Well worth buying.

Read the book and saw the movie. Book was better. Movie was a mini -series came out around 76-77. Starred Sam Elliott, Cliff Potts, and Darleen Carr. I believe. Book should be available at your local library. You can probably get Blockbuster to order the movie for you reasonably. They got me a copy of "Barbarosa" with Willie Nelson for eight bucks. Try finding that one at your video store. swede

Wonderful book. I must have been out on deployment when the mini series aired. The book provides incredible insight into the realities of Army life during the 20th Century as well as an insight into the political realities and machinations of the Army. Every one of us has experienced some of the situations that the protagonist experienced. I tell my NJROTC cadets who are planning a tour in the military to read WEB Griffin's "Brotherhood of War" Army series as well as his USMC series "The Corps" for additional insight into those services.....For the Navy I always recommend, "Mr. Roberts". beach
