With a shotgun, you don't need to aim.

You're 47 times more likely to kill a family member than an intruder.

Worst gun myth -? Well, not really a "myth" so much as a gross misrepresentation...but I hate the shotgun blasts that knock men off their feet and propel them backwards through big glass planes (i.e. liquor store fronts) or off balconies...that sort of thing.

One of the worst depictions was in OPEN RANGE when Robert Duvall from inside a barn shot the bad guy THROUGH A BARN WALL when the bad guy was sneaking along outside the barn...and the shotgun blast not only blew out the barn wall but knocked the bad guy clean across the alleyway between the barn and the next building over.

But evidently the recoil from that super shotgun didn't shatter Bobbie's arm into 20,000 fragments.

While we're on the topic of shotguns, it might be a good place to address the idea that the sound of a shell being loudly chambered into a semi-auto or pump shotgun is often enough to scare intruders away.
Might be true in some cases. But if not, you just gave your position away.

Still talking about shotguns .... the shorter you cut a shotgun barrel, the faster the shot will spread out. A 12" barrel will "cover the whole wall" with shot.

+1 about the Arisaka being a decent gun. The Arisaka is a Mauser-style rifle, slightly modified.

Hollywood Gun Myth: If you're in a firefight, and you're carrying a semi-automatic or automatic rifle/carbine/machine gun...right before you go around the corner to get the crap kicked out of you by Jean Claude van Damme, you should rack the slide again. That's so you can 'supercharge' the round that's already in the chamber (and also alert JCVD)

The NRA is looking out for gun owners.........
The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools.

Until we find out the park material is a combination of depleted uranium, asbestos, infected medical waste and upon close skin contact can transfer active TB, herpes and rabies. After 10 or more rounds are fired the heating up causes mercury fumes which causes the owner to develope mercury poisoning which we all know is wher the term " Mad as a Hatter " comes from. Making the owner expend more ammo than he can afford therefor adding to the " mad american cowboy assault weapon " image. The gas system releases a gas directly into the air around the user and his fellow target shooters, which contains GHB ( date rape drug ),viagra and LSD, allowing the operator to be taken advantage of or do the taking advantage of,while spraying bulluts in an illegal fashion poss injuring and innocent bystanders. The following felony conviction then removes your right to own firearms and could increase homosexuality among the right gun owners of america. So thats why this would be the only "high cap clip, belt fed, assault weapon in semi mode with a pistol grip and the deadly full auto bayonet lug" Mike Moore and the left would sponser. One that makes you a felon, gay, dependent of the welfare medical system, a pervert, a drug user and the "high cap" would make you an "illeagal", its got the whole package. This message brought to you by the "its for the children" foundation, paid for by you through PLA by Norman and Hillary. Co-sponsered by MAMBLA "It takes a village for you to raise your children by others ".

"Only load five chambers in a single action revolver."

Hammer down on an empty chamber is sound advice for older type single actions that can readily fire if dropped.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

this one nerd was convinced that "M16's are the most powerful rifle there is! ...because the Marines use them!"

    (...idiot...)

However a marine and his rifle, is the most dangerous weapon in the world!

The whole "% stopping power" thing.

Actually, pretty much anything Marshall and Sanow have written.

A cheap "silencer" for a .22 bolt action rifle is a new neoprene baby bottle nipple slipped over the muzzle allowing the bullet to pass through and traps most of the sound inside the barrel. Hmmm
