Yup. Spring Break. Too cold to ride my MC or go to the range so I've been reading all the tons and tons of new federal regulations coming down on college educators. You should see this stuff. Nothing in the news about all these new regulations and requirements.

My job officially sucks at this point.

New regs? Man, I'm even gladder to be retired than before.

    Examples of what bothered me:

    1. We were strictly required to be non-discriminatory in hiring decisions. So to prove that we were ignoring race and gender, our hiring committees had to give intense scrutiny to the race and gender of every job applicant and document how we ignored those issues.

    2. On research proposals that involved human subjects the IRB (Institutional Review Board) required us to document how we planned to protect them from harm and insure their confidentiality. I called the IRB director and described the kind of interviewing I would be doing. I explained that it fit the definition of research that was exempt from reporting requirements but called to double check as a courtesy. He agreed it was exempt, but insisted that I submit a detailed report documenting why it was exempt.

You mean to tell me it's getting worse?

Feds are barging into the classroom, now. Telling us what material we have to offer and how the students are to be tested.

Can't you post while at work on the job you currently have?

During office hours I can but not while in the classroom.

PS: Internet surfing is OK under campus policy as long as it's not porn, gambling or something other deemed inappropriate. So far GB is OK (and they know what I'm doing on my computer as all activity is subject to monitoring). From my office I may drop in for a couple minutes once or twice a day but I don't spend any real time here. Usually busy with other things.
