Yeah, it's formula... but it seems to work.

Trying to photograph a couple rifles this afternoon. I think I have the formula worked out. All the photos sort of look the same but at least I can get the details on the guns and the lighting looks OK. May experiment with a different color backdrop, but otherwise this system works for me.

I have always thought your 'full' pics looked really good.
They are far better than mine are shall we say.[;)]

I shoot pics like yours and drop a text box with all of the pertinent info. Keep them in a folder on the computer as well as print them out.

They look great, can you tell us your secret? You are not using flash on the camera, right? What kind of lighting?

CS8161- I use a Pentax SLR digital with a 55mm lens. The camera is capable of 14MPs but I have it dialed back to 8MPs to keep the file size manageable. I have a Pentax AF200S flash on the camera.

I back away about 12 feet and compose the rifle from corner to corner. Then I use PhotoShop to rotate it to proper landscape format, crop out extra info around the rifle, and add the text box.

Here are a couple more. Like I said, it gets a little repetitious with the same formula but this way I know I can get a decent shot.

PS: I have noticed that if I get more light the backdrop tends to wash out leaving the subject sort of floating (see the K98 shot above). Nice effect. Can't do it on demand, though.
