Showed the wife the procedure to access the gun safes. She needs to know how to do it. Look for a hell of an auction when I croak.

Can't wait! Don
I've given my wife the combination to my safe but she couldn't open it if there was a pile of $100 bills and chocolate inside waiting for her.
Not for the $100 bills...
But, if she knew there 'might' be chocolate to be had..
Mine would definitely hire a safe cracker.
All of the above is why I am selling mine before I die.
I won't need the money... I'd rather have the cold blue steel.
When I'm gone 'they' can do what they want...
I'm counting on a massive coronary. I want one of those "He was dead before he hit the floor" events.

Yeah mine would have to hire someone to open it.
..I've demonstrated the procedure a few times. I've told her repeatedly the two places where the combo is written down. Pop quiz every couple months. She has no idea. I give up.

It appears no amount of training will help. My brother and an old friend know where the combination and spare key are. And my attorney has another with my will.
Maybe when my son is old and responsible enough he will take to the training. But I have given up on the wife.

I think every husband has had one (and probably a lot more) such episodes with the wife. I sit down every few months with the wife to go over financial matters, to discuss where our money is, etc. I talk and she kind of listens, and if I ask her a question a week or two later she has no clue.
She once got all mad at me once because I was making all the financial decisions. Ok, fine, I told her, let's partner up. You deal with the insurance company and do the taxes. I'll handle the bank accounts, investments, and the flexible spending accounts. I started handing over the paperwork to her, told her about the reading she'd have to do and all the paperwork, and she just threw her hands up and went upstairs.
Then a year or so later she wanted to know everything. Every password, every bank account number, everything. She wanted it all on one sheet of paper. I told her OK, but told her that she'd need to guard such information with her life. If a robber or identify thief gets his or her hands on it, we're screwed. So I made her up a sheet and put it in a drawer. I told her it was there, yellow piece of paper with all the information you wanted. Ok, she said.
A week later I took out the sheet and burned it. I put in another yellow sheet of paper that said, "Come see me for the financial information." I closed the drawer. It's been three years now and she's never brought it up.
Everything has my wife's name on it. All properties, all vehicles, all bank accounts, everything. We have a will with simple instructions. If she survives me (in other words, we don't die together in a fiery car crash or something) she inherits everything to do with as she pleases. She has also had power of attorney for the past 15 years or so. She can sign for me on anything.
She has authority to make end of life decisions on my behalf. Nobody will argue. I have made my wishes clear on what I do and do not want done.
You have to do these things.
