it has been said that men take orders better when the orders are in a given in a females voice. not necessarily a female face to face. she has a long road to go I wish her luck

I don't have a problem with a female General but this excerpt bothers me:

"Women haven't reached four-star rank because by law they are excluded from serving in combat roles, which historically have been the path to the highest-ranking positions. That exclusion still applies, but with Dunwoody the Army has chosen to cast aside its customary limitations on promotion."

It appears that she's probably a "token" to appease the liberal Congress and women's rights groups. I'm sure there's some resentment from the male 4-stars who have had to endure combat in order to attain their rank.

Kinda reminds me of the female Navy pilot who couldn't fly or land her plane. The Navy's social experiment cost the life of the pilot and the plane.

I have a BIG problem with this situation.

She is UNEQUAL to the men in the SAME position.

When the standrds are changed because of gender/creed/race, ect. those that benefit are unfit for position.

Women want equal pay, treatment, oppertunity, ect. but won't work on a LEVEL playing field.

What? Should the military start handing out stars based on a *?

    I think NOT.

"Her 33 years of service, highlighted by extraordinary leadership and devotion to duty..."

A career officer with 33 years of highly regarded service. Sounds like general material to me.

I don't think this promotion is so much trying to further women as it is trying to further non-combat officers. The new head of the Air Force is a transportation commander rather than a combat pilot. This is a major change in military leadership structure.

Now, if she is being promoted ahead of more qualified male candidates then that is wrong. But I do not know this to be the case. Any of you critics know for a fact that she is being pushed ahead of better suited men or do you just rebel at the notion of a woman in command?

Heck, Saxon, even I know the answer to that question! Some folks on here are just plain pigs. After putting up with a male dominated force for 33 years, I would say she's more than qualified on that alone!!!

Just because she hasn't been allowed in combat doesn't mean she isn't capable of leading troops in combat or killin'.

She was dumb enough to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft, she sounds like 4 star material to me.

was combat qual waved? its that simple. if it was, then gender is an issue.

case in point...there never use to be navy female divers because they could not hold up the mk5 dive helmet. they were too weak. so, what does the navy do? scraps a perfectly good dive rig and designs one that women can wear. now there are navy female divers.

the system bent to the desires of women, instead of women conforming to what they were best intended. they pushed open the door.

same with serving in combat. either she did or she didnt, you dont get the board of inquiries to wave it based soley on a change of policy to suit the womans wants.

either she meets the current requirements or she doesnt.

Above two star SP, it gets highly political, better officers are passed over frequently where qualifications are concerned.

She's an administrator, not a combat officer. With 11 generals I assume some are more administrative than combat orientated.

Don't worry, now that she is prominent, the pics will soon show up on the internet.

33 years in, im quite confident that she has attained the qualification necessary to do her job. for the love of god folks, she'll be heading the supply dept, not the rangers.

Somewhat ironic to me that you have to serve in combat to become a four star general, however no time of service is required to become the president of the United States.

America is, in aeronautical terms, in an "unrecoverable flat spin".

We will believe that we can pull out, right up until the moment we impact the ground.

Handsome, venerable and battle-rugged Chesty Puller, owner of FIVE Navy Crosses, never made it past Lt. General. I'm sure he's spinning in his grave over this. [:(!]

I am pretty amazed at some of the comments on this thread. First of all she earned the position. 33 yrs of serving this country is enough for me. Administrative position and obviously damn good at it. I thank her for the service.
