Pocket watch info??

I picked this up at a local gunshow (cigar box full of 'junk' for $20). It's a 'Westclox pocket ben'. the sad part is the back is inscribed "Xmas 1933, Grandpa Ecker's watch 1875-1941". it even keeps good time!

Looks like Grandpa got 8 yrs. use out of it anyway [;)]. Sometimes I think a lot of my personal belongings will wind up in someone's junk box for sale [:(]

A cool find for sure but of little monetary value.

The Westclox pocket ben was a mass produced watch made for the average working man, it is a non-precious metal plated body with a paper face and usually had a 5-6 jewel movement made of stamped metal parts and a plastic (or glass depending on it's age) crystal.
The chains were sold separately

I have a unused model still in the box which has a suggested retail price of $1.79

All that being said they were a good solid running watch that outlasted a lot of much more expensive models

We have my wife's fathers pocket watch, a gold Waltham (he died in 1947) it was missing one hand and did not run. Got it restored and running for about $70.00. It now hangs in a domed glass case in the living room.

"A cool find for sure but of little monetary value."...........for sure, I checked on e-barf and there are a bunch listed from $1.98 to $40 nib. The 'cool' factor is worth the $20. I'll take it to the jewelers and have it cleaned.

Nothing sad about the inscription. It "dates" the watch which adds value. Great find.
