Had a great neighbor. Two miles up the road.
After he moved in about 6 years ago, heard from all the neighbors that I needed to meet this gentleman.
Retired from Union Pacific as an IT technician, and moved out here from Carter Lake, Iowa.
Lived to hunt waterfowl, and everything else when the ducks weren't moving.
Finally got off my duff and introduced myself.
We had so much in common, and always said we should get together and hunt, just b.s., or just hang out.
He hadn't field hunted for geese in years, and I've always wanted to shoot mallards on the Missouri river.
Should have been a pact that benefited both of us. Well, more towards me, but, you know.
We never shared a decoy spread.
He passed today.
5 weeks ago, he was in perfect health.
Then, they thought it was a stroke. Turned out it wasn't.
Turned out to be prions, they think.
In five weeks, it took him.
Hope he was able to bring his favorite scatter gun with him.
I'd like to think he'll be in that great decoy spread in the sky come Sun up,
With the people that ment the most to him.
On one of those perfect mornings, where the mallards are dropping out of the sky.............

It's a shame you were never able to do more together...
I'm sure though that you can rest assured he's where he wants to be...
Waitin' on those ducks amongst a magnificent decoy spread.
Thanks for the post.
