Truth is rough sometimes

Yesterday my dad and his neighbor Robert and i were talking and i told Pop that if i make it to 50 (4 more years) i was going to build a 30 x 30 shop. Both my dad and Robert are against it. Robert told me that i would probably never go back to work again so why build a shop. I was like i can go outside and sit in it and think. Just sometimes to get out of the house. I dont know. I will not do anything before 50 because the docs said if i make it to 50 i will be ok. I just dont have much chance to get to 50.

If it is unlikely you will actually WORK in the place and really just want an "inner sanctum" or mancave where you can get some peace and relax without distraction, consider a nice used trailer. Just think, a comfortable couch, TV, frig, stove, crapper!!, and a bedroom if you want to just spend the night in private. AND it has a lock on the inside so you can keep your privacy while you are in it. [:)] That will be a much easier project than building a new shop to hang out in. [:)]

IMO whatever makes you happy. They told my Dad he had 5 more years, that he manged to stretch to over twenty. IMO that five year thing is to encourage you to take care of business and if it lasts longer all is good.

I've been digging out projects I didn't have time for last summer and finishing them. I now have two extra compressors and three functional water pumps I don't really need. Hobbies are nice, I like tinkering in the winter and growing stuff in the warmer months. I take a nature walk most every day.

The winter solstice is past, the long month of February is before us, but will soon be over with. Spring is just around the corner. Keep yourself busy and stuff will be flowering and growing again soon.

I've been following your posts, you seem to be a good communicator. Have you ever tried writing?

Truth is often a very subjective term!

If it makes you happy and you can afford it, I say go for it! [;)]
It's being willing. I found out early that most men, regardless of cause or need, aren't willing. They blink an eye or draw a breath before they pull the trigger. I won't. ~ J.B. Books

You can get an inner sanctum, solarium, work space, man cave or whatever else you want to call it a whole lot cheaper and more efficiently than building a large shop you'll likely never use.

Also consider your estate. Your survivors can do a lot more with the dollars you'd spend on this shop than they can with a building.

A much smaller pre fab or trailer could give you your space to go get away from whatever and do it without a huge outlay.

That's the nice thing about a trailer over a building. When (not if) we die, our kids or wives can just sell the thing and recapture the money, as long as you got a good price when YOU bought it and you took care of it while you had it. [:)] With the building, the money is a lot harder to get back. Shoot, instead of a bedroom in the trailer, you could convert that into a small hobby room or reloading bench without damaging the trailer. When you're gone, your wife just puts the bed back, sweeps up, and advertises it for sale. Then she can use the money for anything SHE may need. Best of luck to you. [:)]
