Greece = USA in Ten Years ??

Is anyone else paying attention to Greece? Not just the political junk but the everyday life of the ordinary citizen? Is cash the best thing to have? Is there a barter system and what items are in demand? What stuff is hard to come by and bringing high prices, fuel, food, medical services? Will society break down and become dangerous and will that occur first in the cities as one would expect? How long before it spreads to the country side? What are the police and military doing? I think this could easily happen here in our country in ten years maybe less. Folks who pay attention and plan well may be spared a whole lot of heartache. Just saying.

In a cashless situation things to trade might be good to have extra on hand.
    Gold/silver
    Ammo
    Medical supplies
    Alcohol
    Cigatettes/cigars
    Food

But lets be honest if our society truly collapsed you will have a massive die off from starvation & rough winters. The idea of everyone going up to the hills is ridiculous. MOST would die of exposure. Think Donner Party.

Doesn't say much for their banks doling out only $60 a day (if your lucky) of your money, I'd personally forget dealing with banks all together in the future but it seems the locals and merchants still take the paper money when available. One can live without banks [;)]

gold and silver would be way too hard to put a value on. hard to barter with.

cigarettes and alcohol. cigs won't keep long but high demand. alcohol lasts years and years, high % also has medicinal value. people looking for a buzz won't care if it's top shelf or cheap, won't have much to trade for it anyway.

you won't get much for it at first, but it will always be in demand. later on it will become much more valuable as booze becomes scarce.

stockpile a bunch of cheap, high alc. vodka

IMO we are a major event away from a collapse
I do not think we will see it coming and when it happens it will come fast like over a few days.

But, I really can't see an end to civilization as some predict.

What I envision is a massive government crackdown particularly in urban areas, a deep depression and controls that suppress freedoms or in other words something even worse than anarchy

It's falling in place just like Obama and his handlers planned. Everybody that voted for Obama and all the people that didn't vote at all are getting the government they deserve!!

when will greece force a "bail in" where the govt seizes private assets...bet the US govt would love to get its hands on and control all the retirement and savings monies here and then dole you out a small percentage of your own earnings..at least until you DIE (under obummercare) and then confiscate the remainder..won't happen, you say ???

We're already past Greece. All the blather about debt to GDP ratio is just that...blather, spin to placate an increasingly stupid public. Our debt is way past the point of ever paying it off.

Compared to us, at over 17 trillion dollars in debt, the Greeks are in pretty good shape. Their problem is they just don't have a money machine to crank out more cash with like we do. It won't be long though before our magic money machine has it's plug pulled. As soon as the rest of the world goes off of the dollar we're sunk!

Looks to Me as if Germany is going for its third attempt at World domination.I think the Greeks have just sold away their rights to run their own country.

lol.It looks like they are going to get a worse deal than before they had their vote.

The big difference is that Greece's debt is denominated in Euros.
All of our debts & pension obligations are in dollars. We can at any time turn on the printing presses & pay off the debt. In fact the
Feds want at least 2% inflation as that reduces the value of the debt.
Remember back when George the Lesser first took office & the Federal Reserve Chairman was warning about the dangers of deflation when we were on track to begin paying down the debt?
