    From the story:

The report said that although some in Berthing 2 heard a loud noise at the time of the collision or were thrown from their beds by the force of the impact, some did not realize what had happened and remained in bed. Some remained asleep.

"At least one sailor had to be pulled from his rack and into the water before he woke up," it said.

My wife sometimes laughs at how I keep a pistol in the cabinet by the bed. You do realize you'll have to wake up to shoot somebody, she says.

That's about what you'd expect with the recent emphasis on a "less authoritarian" military and the increased emphasis on political correctness at the cost of military abilities.

"Big bang" on ship should brink everyone to their feet, ready for "damage control".

That's the big difference between a ship having "crewmen" instead of "passengers" [:(!]

I knew the Captain was toast on the day of the crash.

Send him to the brig in Hawaii for 2 years, let him be guarded by Marines, he will get an attitude adjustment.

He should go to jail, 7 sailors died because of his screw up.

Prayers for the families that placed thier sons in the trust of the US armed forces. Shame on the Navy for slack in protocols from the top down....

I find it beyond comprehension how this could of happened considering the redundancy of navigation and warning systems used.

Certainly the top enlisted deserves a big part of the blame. His number one job is to keep the senior officers focused on their job and he failed to do so.

    Total meltdown.

More reason to put Artificial Intelligence in control in the miltary so Humans can be protected from Malfeasance and rely on skynet as their protector.

Why should we pay millions of dollars for personnel duties on warships just automate navigation and get rid of humans making these decisions for now! Heck self driving auto's are just around the corner anyway!

Although he concedes it might just take one country deciding to field killer robots to set others changing their minds about autonomous weapons. ?Perhaps a more realistic scenario is that countries do have them, and abide by a strict treaty on their use,? he says.
