Got the dern thing working, had trouble with finding my new home. I chose msn over centrytell, netscape, explorer, yahoo. My out-laws had the same servor so it simplified things a bit. Anyone have a good server sugestion? Open for suggestions.

MSN sucks pretty bad. I had to "migrate" over to msn dsl from qwest and it was very painful. They finally got it straight though.I must say, however, DSL rocks the house!!!!!Insta-Porn hehe.

You guys make me SICK!!! Even more the guys with cable! We can't get anything here except reqular phone lines. No dsl, isdn or cable. just 56k modem! Thought about satalite, a friend of mine has it, but it is only good for browsing and downloads. No good for online gaming. I have heard now that the new v92 modems speed up data transfer a little bit, need to try one. Other than that, you guys with cable and them other fancy fast connections can go fly a kite! I'll fix all of ya and spend $1100 a month and get a T-1 !!

I have to gloat at least a little: here in Georgia Bellsouth ADSL is 1.5 mbps downstream, 256K upstream. ADSL blows away cable modems here in terms of speed, probably because cable modems are organized into cells where you are sharing bandwidth with everyone else in your cell. ADSL gives each user full bandwidth.I ran some download tests against a friend's T1 in his office and the ADSL was actually faster than the T1 in real world downloads, probably because the T1 was shared by whomever happened to be downloading porn while we ran the test.

Admin, don't forget also that the server you are downloading from has to have a fast connection and the bandwidth to share. I do alot of FTP work on this setup and I've found that different servers vary greatly. There is a computer store not far from here that has a T-1 that I sometimes use for major downloads, in the evening when all the emplyees are gone, and it is just me and the owner, I get some real killer download times against another T-1 or T-3. Man I wish I could afford to have one!

What you are saying is absolutley correct. I have been in the GB data center when downloading a 100MB file from microsoft.com didn't seem any quicker than downloading it from home over ADSL. GB has practically infinite bandwidth since the servers are fed by a 100MB connection from multiple sets of fiber. Microsoft may meter connections to prevent people with fast access from monopolizing their bandwidth.Downloading things like the 450MB monthly web logs from the GB server usually nets me close to 1.5Mbps via ADSL.

Can't say about the actual downloads but I ran the speed check and came up with 568 killobits on the high end. whatever that means. 360 killobits on the low end. I think thats good.

I have DSl in SW WA through Centurytel. Hate their browser...so I just made a favortie site of mine, my new home page. Use Netscape 6.2 for most internet, but IF I am browsing The auction sites, use IE ( explorer seems to load pics faster.) Advertised 512up/256 down.....but We run 420/216 constantly.

7mm, Be careful who you make mad while you have that slow connection. When my boss got married he moved to the country and all he had was dial-up. When he would do things we didn't like, we would send him 4 or 5 Mb movie files in his e-mail.It would tie him up for hours.
