Perhaps the were pulling a top gun......

Russian jet fighter did barrel roll over U.S. reconnaissance plane -

WASHINGTON, April 29 #64830;Reuters#64831; #8208; A Russian jet fighter intercepted a U.S. Air Force reconnaissance
plane on Friday in an "unsafe and unprofessional manner" over the Baltic Sea, the Pentagon said, and
CNN reported the Russian pilot did a barrel roll over the U.S. plane.
The U.S. Air Force RC#8208;135 plane was flying a routine route in international airspace when it was
intercepted by the Russian SU#8208;27 fighter, the Pentagon said, in the latest in a series of similar
incidents between the U.S. and Russian militaries.
The Russian fighter came within about 100 feet #64830;30 meters#64831; of the American plane as it performed the
dangerous, high#8208;speed maneuver, CNN reported, citing two U.S. defense officials in the Baltic Sea
region.
"This unsafe and unprofessional air intercept has the potential to cause serious harm and injury to all
aircrews involved," Pentagon spokesman Commander Bill Urban said in a statement.
"More importantly, the unsafe and unprofessional actions of a single pilot have the potential to
unnecessarily escalate tensions between countries," he said.

We can't and won't do crap about it. The Ruskies have our astronauts as hostage on the space station. It is a long walk from the air lock to earth if they decide to stop carrying Americans to and from...

There are U-Tube car camera shots of crazy Russian antics involving vehicles. Vodka must well oil the human machinery.

I don't know why they keep making a big deal about this stuff. Maybe it's because it's Air Force and they scare easy?

Most likely the Russian was off the port wing of the 135 and rolled out to the left. It would have been unprofessional if he rolled to the right, but I can't see that happening as it would be dangerous.

These are not newbie Russian pilots that do the intercepts.
Putin has proved he can punk Obama, it's time for him to pull back the dogs before some idiot believes Kerry and shoots.

    Those crazy russians
Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.

That fault lies with our Administration. NASA used to represent space exploration, now it represents Muslim outreach. Allowing the shuttle program to die without a replacement is shameful.

The Navy has the same restrictions on engagement.

2 weeks ago the USS Donald Cook was "strafed" twice by Russian jets; in 1 encounter, the jet flew within 30' of the ship. The ship would have been tracking them within 200 NM. I think that they never even went "active". Obviously, Putin knows that the Big Liar doesn't have a pair of ovaries.

Wrangle, wars are not started flatfooted. There are hundreds of telltale signs to watch for:

Larger than normal procurement of munitions and foodstuffs.
More frequent meetings of high level officials.
    Tightened borders.
Shuffling of fleet and mechanized assets.
    Cancelling of personnel leave.
A flurry of spy satellite launches.

There's a bunch more, but if the entire fleet, including submarines, puts to sea, I would expect an attack within three weeks.
Even WWII began this way. We knew the Japanese fleet had sortied, just not where.

It boils down to good, accurate intel.

Putin appears to want to coexist with the West, he just thinks Obama is a puke.

No need to get too spooled up.

This sort of stuff was pretty common during the Cold War period - by both sides. I'm even aware of aircrews mooning the Soviets flying close by. [:D]

The idea is that maybe the other side will get nervous or pissed enough to light up their electronics as a threat, which just provides the other side with an excellent opportunity to study and catalogue your defensive systems and/or tactics.

This is why that Russian fighter was making those really high speed, close as possible passes on that ship last week. If he'd intended to attack he's have never entered the grid square.
