LEO uniforms

Another post about the confusion over LEO rank insignia reminded me of something and I'd like to run it by you folks.

I've heard it suggested in my state that all LEO's should wear standardized colors. Something like PD's in dark blue, SO's in brown and State Troopers in their normal brownish gray uniform. Private security guards would not be allowed to wear any of these colors. The idea behind this would be to cut down on the confusion by people about who they're dealing with and what authority they have. After all, Texas law states that an LEO's "symbol of authority" is the distinctive uniform. For example, if someone assaults an officer they are presumed to have known that it was an LEO just by the uniform. No verbal identification on the officers part is necessary. This is also the case in most other states.

When the only thing that distinguishes an LEO from a private security guard is the small wording on a shoulder patch and badge, it could be argued that the person misunderstood who they were dealing with. I've also found that each agency being allowed to make their own fashion statement is very confusing to foreign visitors.

Should LEO uniform colors be standardized like this for easy recognition?

I know what some of y'all would suggest, but I don't look good in hot pink.
