A firearm seems like a decent place for mim parts. If the wrong material is selected from the get go, you may have an issue, but that is not the fault of the process.

Same with casting, and there are lots of guns with cast parts out there. If you select the wrong material, don't heat treat to the right spec, you're not going to get a good part. But it's not the fault of the process.

wilson used them for a very short time, all the parts in mine are bullet proof, they stopped years ago due to failure , and they only did it with slide stop and mag release

newer glocks locking block it mim, most part are stamped

    Remington...

The price difference between the 870 Express and the 870 Police Magnum is that the Express has MIM parts and a plastic fire control while the Police Magnum has milled parts and a cast fire control.

    Are the MIM parts ferrous?
That is, can one identify them with a magnet?

I knew somebody would come to the rescue with a picture, rather than me trying to describe what to look for. Thanks Forge!![^]

Well...Considering the aircraft industry has been using this relatively new technology for key structural, flight controls, and other critical components, I see no problem at all. In fact, it is a great idea as it saves both labor costs and scraps from machining.

Ruger was scoffed at when they introduced investment casting in their MFG process which was undeserved. MIM is similar

Add Kahr to the list. Their C line uses MIM parts while the P series runs machined parts.
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

How many people have had a MIM part failure? Anybody know of someone that's had a part to fail? I bet the number can be counted on one hand.

I've had numerous MIM parts fail in various pistols in for repair,,,,,,,the bulk of which includes sears, disconnectors, etc.

One PD Officer's gun completely locked up with a broken disconnector,,,,,,,

Once again, it's all about QC during production,,,,

Make that two hands then. [;)]

Well...Considering the.........quality of MIM firearms parts is nowhere near that of those very expensive aircraft aircraft components, any comparison is misleading.

I've repaired more than one respected, major manufacturer's gun where a non-stressed MIM firearm component just simply broke apart. Visual inspection during disassembly/cleaning prior to these incidents revealed no issues.

When it comes to a defensive firearm I'd much rather go ahead and pay more for a machined part than roll the dice like that.
