Is it illegal to be in the possession of a few rounds of 20mm? Got a friend who inherited a bunch of stuff and that was in some of the boxes.

Which 20mm? The 3 most common ones here in the states are the 20x102 (Vulcan), 20x110RB (Rebated Base) (Orlikon), and the 20x110 Hispano-Suzza). Not as common is the 20mm Lattie anti-tank round.
pardon any spelling errors.
This might help, the blue bullet is the 20x102, the black bullet is a 20mm Hispano, the empty case is a NUE 20mm Hispano, than 2 unfired 20mm Orelikon, than the brown bullet is a 20x138B (WW-2 German).
Inquiring minds want to know, what are the 3 rounds on the right?

I wasn't talking to you feinstein I was talking to the guy who DOESN'T know what he has. Where is the common sense?!
You could not drag me behind the rifle that shot the round third from the right! What did they hunt with that? Dragons? Windmills?
IIRC Ed uses it on whitetail deer (we grow em big in Michigan [:D] ).
Why would you think it would be bad to shoot? It's only a little bigger than the 458 Lott, which is just a little bigger than the 458 Win Mag (which is 3 steps bigger than the 45-70).
Now, if you want big, look at the 2 rounds in the lower left (12ga From Hell). I've shoulder fired a few of those, and they wern't bad to shoot. For compairison purposes, the straight wall round with wooden bullet in the 2nd row up is a 45-70 shot load, the 3 to the right of that are 44 Mag shot loads, and the black ones on the bottom are the 12ga Agulia "mini" shotshells.
From the ATF website:
NOTE: Missiles (projectiles) less than caliber 20mm generally are not large enough to accommodate
more than one-quarter ounce of explosive or incendiary material. In the case of 20mm high explosive
(HE) or high explosive incendiary (HEI) projectiles, it is imperative to determine the model designation
of the specific item as some 20mm HE and HEI projectiles contain more than one-quarter ounce of
explosive or incendiary material and are destructive devices. Other 20mm HE and HEI projectiles do not
contain more than one-quarter ounce of explosive and are not destructive devices. Therefore, it is
incumbent upon persons interested in 20mm HE and HEI ammunition to determine the amount of
explosives contained in a specific projectile. HE and HEI missiles (projectiles) larger than 20mm
generally contain more than one-quarter ounce of explosive or incendiary material and are destructive
devices.
