Texas police

Just a quick question for a friend. Are Texas officers allowed to carry a handgun if they are in a bar offduty? Are they allowed to carry if they are drinking in a bar offduty? Is a officer in Texas allowed to carry if he is drinking with someone else on their property offduty?

Question for me. Would a out of state officer be allowed to carry here, and would he be allowed to carry the same as officers from Texas?

No idea on regs in TX, but beleive there is a Federal law that permits officers of a state, county, city to carry anywhere in the country.

    Yes*

    Yes*

    Yes*

    Yes

*No violation of the law unless the person is intoxicated, but often banned or restricted by department policies.

Actually, Txs, it is a violation for a CHL holder to carry a handgun while intoxicated. I know of no such law affecting peace officers. Correct me if you know something I don't.

Common sense would dictate that ANYONE who plans to drink to excess should lock up the guns first, but common sense is a rapidly disappearing commodity.

Just saying it would be easier for someone to articulate the fact that a person carrying a gun - legally or not - posed a danger to themselves or others for a PI charge.

I miss being able to carry in bars like when I lived in NH. I used to spend a lot of time in them with friends but rarely drank myself. Either way, it was perfectly legal to carry while in a bar, drinking or not.

I'm guessin' y'all never heard of the Federal Law about carrying a firearm (loaded or unloaded) into an establishment that sells booze.
Must be what that pesky "A" in ATFE stands for.....

We have some liquor stores here that have shotguns behind the counters for "pesky" patrons.

    Some in plain view!

Here in Louisiana, it is illegal to carry in any establishment that makes most of it's sales from liquor. LEO, or CCW. In my younger, more foolish days, I once called an LEO in uniform on this, after he became obnoxiously drunk. I drove real carefully for many years after that.

No such animal.Same here....probably because there is no such federal law.

gunnut - In fact, with certain restrictions a CHL holder in my state can legally carry in establishments where alcohol is served.
