I have a little pig trail dirt road that runs alongside my property and from time to time have to deal with teenage couples, people dumping unwanted pets, etc. but my latest experience has got me really twisted.

I got home from work the other morning and found a six pointer lying dead on my property less than 50 yds. behind my house. It appeared as if it got popped along this road during the night and headed for the nearest cover, but balled up in my field halfway there. Apparently they either didn't see where he finally dropped or my dogs scared them away from approaching to retrieve their kill.

This comes three days after I found the fresh remains of a doe carcass a short distance down this road from my residence. They'd taken the meat they wanted and just left her where they shot her.

It's bad enough these people are out of season/road shooting deer - especially at night - but this last one is entirely too close to where my family sleeps.

I've lit a fire under the local authorities to increase their presence and had a talk with the game warden. I invited him to put one of those mechanical deer on my place, but their availability is pretty limited.

Heard That Mechanical animal has gotten a lot of people. They have an Elk they use in this area. They made sure people would want to shoot it, its got one Massive rack.

Would love to sit with the ranger watching it. Think that would be fun.

I know of a landowner that raised cane with fish and game to have one of those mechanical deer put up on his property because of hunters persons shooting from the roadway across his property at deer.
They did put one up, actually a few days early.
The landowner was one of the first ones caught shooting at the dang thing from the road!

A game warden told me about setting up on one and seeing a pickup slam to a stop out on the road about 100 yds. away. He watched (and videotaped) a guy * his 12 year old son out to shoot it. After the kid fired twice and the deer was still standing the obviously pissed father took the rifle from him and started firing at it himself. They then moved in and busted both of them.

These fake deer contain electric motors which flick the ears and tail or turn the head. According to the wardens if a poacher's rounds damage the mechanism they're also made to pay for repairs. [:D]

There's been one guy caught on our private lease this year(sittin' in my buddy's blind, watchin' his feeder) and I have found evidence of someone besides me bein' in my blind.[:(!][V]

It really doesn't surprise me since the entire area around us is mostly 5-10-20 acre tracts and very little,if any,Game Warden presence.[:(]

I'd love to see a decoy filled with explosives. It'd be fun to watch a guy crap his pants when it blew.

The buzzards had already started their work by the time I found it, so no I wasn't able to spot a bullet wound.

Scavengers will generally start with soft tissue areas. When I found this one I saw they'd been working on the ribcage area heavily, but hadn't touched the eyes/nose/lips yet. While not definitive, this leads me to believe there was a decent size open wound in this area.

This road it was found near isn't much more than a dirt trail that's only kept open to allow pasture/hay meadow access for landowners down that way. Vehicles can't get up enough speed to kill a deer on it. I'm also taking into account this happened within three days of me finding a doe minus hindquarters and backstrap just a few hundred yards down the road.
