The Establishment vs. Bullzeye and his Mosin-Nagant

edited April 2002 in General Discussion
Those rat-bastards at NICS seem bound and determined to wait me out here, but I refuse to bite. After going to school for 6 hours, and working a 3 hour shift at my job, I ran over to the gun store to pick up my new Mosin-Nagant M44.Enter the Establishment: "DELAYED"I paid, then sat and waited. And waited. And examined the gun a million times, and fiddled with every gun in the shop. And waited. And twiddled my fingers, examined the soles of my shoes, and counted the holes in the ceiling tiles. And waited some more.4 and 1/2 hours later, without so much as a "We're going home, we'll call you in the morning" from NICS, one of the gun store employees finally says it probably aint coming. And I've also been informed that if you dont get it within the first 5 hours, you're likely not going to get it until late the next day at the earliest.I hate this ****ing system. It sucks.I could have bought a Jennings .32 out of the trunk of some homie's trunk by now, for half the price, and twice the courtesy.

Don't take it personally, Bullzeye, it happened to me also back in November. The only good news is that if they can't decide in 3 business days, it's automatic.

I feel yer pain. Even a Goobermint employee (Marine) can get an "approved" rating. I've heard that if it happens once it will happen pert near ever time after that.

Whatever is causing the delay will always be there. Hereabouts, the easiest way around it is to get a CHL. The NICS has to give an answer within 3 days. If they do not, the transfer can take place without their approval.I know it is aggravating. It happens to my customers a lot.

I'm just waiting for instrumentofwar to weigh in on this one. He gets delayed when he checks the block corresponding to his true ethnicity. I got delayed when I bought my first bolt-action rifle. The morons at the gun store didn't give the NICS guys the proper social security number! Then I bought a shotgun at a bait shop up in the Thousand Islands area of NY and I got delayed for darn near a week because it was the holiday season.God forbid I would be on an expensive hunting trip and need a rifle because the one I bought crapped out on me.I am just happy about the fact that a permit to purchase handguns in the state where I live now will get me out of any and all NICS checks.[This message has been edited by idsman75 (edited 03-19-2002).]

Here in Pennsylvania, a CHL permit DOES NOT exempt you from a back ground check.....but if it saves one life...

That kind of thinking is responsible for every single removal of our freedoms we've ever had.Take away all guns! If it saves one innocent person's life, then it's worth it!WELL IT AINT!

Well hey, maybe you'll get lucky and the three day limit will run out and you can then purchase the rifle. My dealer (read- one horse town and only guy around) will NOT sell you your firearm if it gets delayed and the 3 day time expires, he will get a proceed or you will go without! BTW I'm tired of argueing with him about it, so I'm sending off for my C&R, Ohio has no CHL yet, if ever, and I'm more into the older stuff anyway-Ralph

Bullz, calm down & look who posted the 'one life' comment. Then open Webster's to "facetious" and "sarcasm." Bureaucrats *are* idiots, man. If they had half a brain they wouldn't be sucking the government teat. Write your Senators & tell them how much the system stinks. Won't do much good considering where you live, but better than telling us, 'cause we already know, amigo.

Very perceptive, Iconoclast. My sarcasm gets me in quite a bit of hot water 'round here sometimes.

I wonder if it varies state by state. Here in Arizona I've never had more than a 15 minute wait.

gap1916, not only did he get it, he claims he knocked down a good sized tree with two shots from it. At least I think that was the gun he said he used.

Ok I'm in Kalifornia, and they have the seven day waiting period.
Around here (at the good shops) they do the check at the beginning of the waiting period. So when the week is up there is nothing additional to wait for.

    Bullzeye,

Did you ever think about getting a C&R FFL? Then you wouldn't have to wait for your M-44. You could also pick up an SKS or something else on the list.

Yup, IDS has seen it. I go to a gun show, a gunsmith, or a sporting goods store. I try to buy a gun. Filling out the NICS check I put my ethnicity as Native American. Anytime I do this however I have never gotten an approval before 3 days. Never. Kind of ruins the whole gunshow idea.

Well one time IDS, 13Fister, and myself were at Eckerds and I filled out a NICS form, thinking what the hell I put ethnicity as caucasion. I got the gun in 5 minutes.

    Think about it......
