Tax Write Offs

Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to get my FFL, but can I write off firearms purchases, or other such transactions, if I show that I'm actually "in business"? The primary reason I would want it is to do just a select amount of business with freinds and family. Is it worthwhile?
