Caution: Remington syn 700's

Be careful when purchasing a Remington 700 adl synthetic and synthetic youth. I have made a couple of the youth models into mountain rifles. The last was a .308. Remingtom has started using plastic for the trigger guard. The guard cracks at the back reciever screw. This has happened twice. Remington argued with me, saying that the guard is not plastic. It melts with a lighter. No metal I have ever seen does this. The last communication with Remington stated that they do not plan to use metal guards again. This is a sub-standard part. Very detrimental to accuracy. Cutting corners at its best. I will let you know the results. BEWARE!

You just had to throw Savage into the mix. Now I have yet another firearm purchase to debate when my tax return arrives next week. I think I just need to stop coming here while the choices are still narrowed down to just a few before my impulses take over and I run out and buy the first gun I touch.

My Remington 700 doesn't have plastic involved with the trigger or anything so I think I'm safe.Terrible though that they're getting further away from quality.

idsman....How much are you getting back? I've got a Rem 700 bdl in 30-06 that's very accurate, and those I know that have other 700 bdl's are more than happy with them. Or maybe you'r getting enough to purchase a Weatherby? I know some have said negative things here about old Roys' guns, but from my experiance they are hard to beat.

I just got back a whopping $57 from Iowa and am anticipating close to $1000 from Federal. I already have $400 tied up in a new shotgun. I was thinking about either a Knight Muzzleloader or a Ruger Vaquero in .44 Mag, or the new Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 Mag, or else a Winchester Model 70 "Coyote" in .22-250.

Get the Coyote and tell me how it shoots. I think I want one in 300WSM.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, take it to a mechanic. will270win@aol.com ~Secret Select Society Of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~
