Do you use Ethanol?

President Bush was in South Dakota yesterday speaking at an Ethanol plant giving it his support as a renewable energy source and a means to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. How many of you use ethanol blended fuel or even have it available in your areas?699

We usually have it during the winter, because of thermal inversions over the city, trapped here by the mountains on the eastern edge of town. Did not have it this winter for some reason. Works fine in most things, but some fuel injectors don't like it.

I've used Ethanol for the last decade plus. Rarely use anything else. I've never had any problems. I've never had a gas line freeze up in the winter either. I've never had to add Heat or anything like that. It works fine in all of my vehicles.

Currently I do not use ethanol as I had some injector problems with my VW Jetta. It is available in my area and I suppose I should give it another shot as it has been a few years since I used it.

I HAVE USED ETHANOL BLENDED FUEL FOR YEARS. 5-10% BETTER GAS MILEAGE. PLUGS LAST LONGER. NO GAS LINE FREEZE UP. ENGINES LAST LONGER. WE HAVE NOTHING HERE WITH LESS THAN 120,000 MILES AND SOME CARS WITH OVER 300,000 MILES. ALSO YOU NEED TO CHANGE OIL LESS OFTEN BECAUSE THE ENGINES BURN CLEANER. KEEP USING, OR TRY IT , IT WORKS.

I use it in everything from my lawn mower to my wifes new car. Been using it for a good ten years. Higher octane and cheaper.

Never had any problems at all.

Please use ethanol if it works for you. It helps us farmers in the midwest. We can make alot of money if we SELL our land, but to actually farm it and make a living is near impossible. Yes, ethanol prevents gas-line freeze.

Not available here in "West-by-Zeus" Virginia. Tried it in the bikes when we went to SD in 2000. None of them ran worth a damn. The truck our friend drove digested it pretty well though. Don't have any long term results.

A fellow at the breakfast counter this morning was complaining about Bush promoting ethanol in South Dakota because he claimed ethanol is just another goverment bailout welfare program for greedy farmers. And to quote this fine misinformed opinionated dawn diner "Those farmers don't need anymore of our money just look at the prices they charge at the super market, damn Republican b@*#%!^s." Instead of getting into a discussion with a brick wall I just listened to him for morning entertainment.

    gunpaq,
The guy is partially correct, sadly. :(

Something like 75% of ALL farmer subsidies go to huge multi-billion dollar corporations. :(

This money was meant for the FAMILY FARMER, not some millionaires!

NO! You may not have my guns! Now go crawl back into your hole!

Ok, this thread got me thinking, so as I was traveling between offices today, I stopped and filled up with a 10% ethanol blend. We'll see if I can tell the difference after a few tank fulls....

Use it in everything and have since it came out. I have never had a problem, even in my motorcycle.

I don't think its available in this area yet (Birmingham, AL). Sounds like a miracle potion - burns cleaner, gets better mileage, AND costs less.

I didn't use ethanol in my pickup (1999 Toyota) until last year because it wasn't available where I lived until I moved back to Iowa. Since then I've been using STRICTLY ethanol-blended fuel. It's been nothing but good in my pickup. Dad's been hauling generators all over the midwest with full-size Chevy pickups since I was a wee boy. He uses ethanol-blended fuel constantly. Those trucks just go and go and go. It's good for the economy, it's good for the environment, it's good for your vehicle and it's good for the farmer.

Idiots like the one previously mentioned are the reason why the stinking liberals run around saying that conservatives want to poison the water and the air and ruin the environment. It sounds like that moron in the restaurant would support anything regardless of the issue so long as it gave him a chance to spite the farmer.

I use it in everything and prefer it. No need for gas line antifreeze, runs better, you may have to adjust the system some, have less maintaince problems. Only engine I have that prefers sometning else if the 52 Farmall Cub, but with lead additive put in it works fine. Corse it requires lead additive in ANY unleaded gas it burns.

My vehicles run flawlessly on Ethanol and I will use nothing else. I like the octane boost over non-ethanol regular unleaded (89 vs. 87 typically) and it is always priced lower in my state.
In using it I support the American farmer (one of which is my Dad) and promote cleaner air. This is a win/win proposition in my mind and I appreciate the President's public support for it.
My grandad had a bumper sticker on his farm truck with a Navy destoyer on it and the caption: "Ethanol doesn't need an escort". That is something we should all think about.

There was a short period many years back when it was available in NH and it seemed to work at least as well as pure petroleum. But then it was dropped & I've not seen it at any pumps here or anywhere I've traveled. Then again, I don't get out much . . . . Is it primarily a Western (or at least Midwestern) thing?

I use ethanol blend whenever I see it. The problem is you only seem to see it in the midwest mostly. I have never seen it here in Kentucky.

You're going to hear that it is a method to get votes from the farmers! Hey, there's only about 1% of the population that are farmers! It's not just for the Midwest. We can grow corn here in the east too! The largest row-crop farm east of the Mississippi is in NC! 45000 acres at one location!! I wish I had that guys seed business!! That's 15000 bags of seed!! Anyway we had some ethanol blends here in VA a few years back but they've disappeared. I never had a problem with ethanol in my vehicles and would welcome it back! Anything we can do to keep the towelheads from getting another AMERICAN dollar is a good deal!! Wish I was 18 and they'd let me take the 25-06 and snipe!! Ain't much difference in a towelhead and a groundhog!! The groundhog is only trying to live. The towelhead wants to kill!!! GHD

How would a person go about trying to make it available in a certain area?

They are going to require it soon here in Kalifornia. From what
we are being told it requires more energy to make than it saves.
I have long heard that it gave less gas mileage & the worst part was that it causes failure of rubber gas lines & connections. I have
never used it so I can only go by what I have read.

gruntled i think you are being feed a line of bs i have run it for years.. since it was first available here never ever had a problem with it ...you maybe thinking of when they used methanol which is different than ethanol.
i can tell you that if you could run a engine on straight ethanol the engine would outlast many car or pickup bodies it burns so clean that you
    cant see it burn
i can get e85 here also but my car is not set up to run that but would like to try some. other wise i have two diesel pickups i have made my own bio diesel (a 20% blend ) they run great more power better economy
the exhaust smelled like it does when you are cooking popcorn in hot oil
i heard a guy from commifornia bad mouthing ethanol on rush limbugh say that ADM controlls over 40% of ethanol production ...they maybe did at first but now famer owned coop's produce most of it now he also was bitching about that it would cost to much to ship to the west coast... looks to me like it would be a hell of a lot cheaper that boating oil from the mid east.
all in all if famers produce 10%-20% of the fuel this country needs that would take a pretty good chunk out of the crowned prince Abdula's rearend which would would make me happy.
also i produce alot of sunflowers in SD which is #2 in production in the USA right behind ND which amounts to billions of lbs of sunflowers which would avg 45% oil that alone would make a fair amount of fuel.
also just to mention FARMERS here are building a 20 million gal ethanol plant 50 miles from me, near Pierre SD.

I know where my beef comes from do you know where yours comes from??....mexico,austrailia, the UK........?????? dont know do you, demand country of origin labling for your food!!!
