Wish I could get my hands on the C E O of her insurance company .
She has an artifical valve in her heart since 1996 . However she does great she still works in the garden ; fishes ; climbs deer stands and whatever wants to do .
When I retired in 2002 due to health at 63 years old we had to pick up her insurance .
Her medications ( 5 ) are cheep and nothing that the insurance co-pay.
There have been an increase each year but not like this one .
Starting Jan. 2009 it goes from $836 a month to $1254 ( may not be right but very close )
She is blaming herself for the finance drain and very down on herself
Don't know how we will manage as has been a strain.
Thank goodnes only 1 year until she will be 65 .

That is absolute BS, have you checked if you could get the medicines cheaper in Canada? Make a trip and see.

Sometimes the manufactures will give you a HUGE discount in hardship cases. I know of one such case. Check it out. I feel sorry for her. Not her fault.

I assume you are on Medicare.
This is the time of year you can change carriers.
I am with Wellco prescription drug plan and only pay for Valium.
You might want to check with them and see if they cover your meds.

As I understand it you are saying that your wife's insurance premiums are $1254 per month.
That is just not right. We need a government supported health care system in this country, like they have in Germany and France.

The government supports nothing! taxpayers do. And no!!! we do not need to "spread the burden" I feel very bad for anyone who is placed in a situation like this, my grandpa is taking the shaft from his pension plan and is sorta in the same boat. That does not mean that others should cough up dough.

by government, you mean taxpayers and by taxpayers you mean me and every other taxpaying member of this board.

im sorry to be harsh on the matter, but i dont have the financial capability to pay for someone elses medical expenses. i can barely afford my own.

    John,....you have my sympathy.
I am only 47, and pay 450 bucks a month for myself, and only go to the doc once a year for a checkup.

Bet I have an increase coming also.

If it makes you feel any better, my mom was paying over 1K a month before she was eligible for Medicare,......she is 67 now.

That is right, boys, I am in favor of socialized medicine.
Every other western industrialized nation has it, and it works pretty well.
About 40 per cent of all bankruptcies in our nation are caused by overwhelming medical bills. It is just not right.

In most matters I am a free enterprise guy, but not medical care. Time for a big change and I hope Obama can bring it about.

I agree with Allen about the entitlements for German and Austrian citizens. I don't have any first hand experience with France.

I spent a couple of weeks in Salzberg 4 years ago visiting my best pal at work who was there with his wife to manage a new company acquisition.

Two things I found striking: hardly any regular folks own property and the huge income tax rate. My pal lived for 2 years in a expensive area. His apartment was about 30 feet wide and (including the garage/basement) was 4 stories tall. Land is at a premium. Taxes are unbelieveable - but the good news that at old age the citizens are well taken care of. Most social services are free.

Yes, our system is out of control but this "spread the wealth" worrys me.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

anyone that wants gov health care need to think about the government and how it has run every program in the ground with poor managment. With Obama and McShame wanting to add 20 million illegals to our heath care and social benefits we screwed/

Obama introduced SB2433 the Global Proverty act and billions to be spent but not on Americans[xx(][:(]

Illegals are included in the American Health Care System already.
They just show up at the ER and Federal Law mandates that they be treated.
Under President Allen Griggs, this would be the perfect chance to run their * out of our country.
"Treat and Deport" would be the order of the day under President Griggs.

Any illegal ninos in the waiting room could get on the same bus for the border as the mama.

Not a problem with the cost of her meds as nothing cost much.
Only reasion to have the insurance is if something should happe to her and has to go to hospital or have surgey.
Also would hate to sell the farm ( been in the family over 100 yrs. )as would like it to go to the G-kids.
However the kitty will run out in about a year and will do whatever I have to do .

I am surprized that no one has mentioned the fact that BS litigation, false claims, and inflated regulatory costs adds a tremendous cost to health care costs. Government sponsored health care isn't what its cracked up to be. Find a Canadian with an agressive disease that doesn't have the time to wait for his turn to see the doctor.

The indigent currently have a lot of "free" (you and I pay)medical benefits, just visit your local emergency room. Socialize is to merely pass the buck to an organization that can't handle the job.
