Expensive wake-up call, but...

Got some ideas-tell me what you think. PLEASE do not take this as callous and unfeeling.Tuesday we got a knock on the door. It was a horrifying knock. It unfolded with both shocking speed and agonizing slowness. It unfolds to this hour. the cost (human and financial) will mount for weeks. It will be terrible and long lasting. But what good will come out of this? Some results are immediate.1) WE ARE A NATION AGAIN! Most of us here have never forgotten it, and agonize over the actions of those who have. But there is NO dissent on this one. Also, many of us have dispared over the democrat take-over of the senate (I say take over because it didn't happen from an election) and they're promise of not getting Bush's cabinet and appointees approved. Since GW gets a 90+% approval, woe to any dem who plays politics and prevents Bush from building an effective executive branch.2) WE ARE STILL VERY STRONG! Our infrastructure is untouched, our economy still sound, and there will be no lingering health problems associated with this attack. Think how different it could have been. We have allowed our minds and readiness to decay for many years, but physical attack has a tremendous way of clearing out the crap and focusing the mind.3) OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES ARE INTACT! I got so sick of Rather, Jennings, Brokaw et al asking present and past gov't officials if liberties should be curtailed. Most said NO! If America needs to change to save America, what are we saving? Our liberties are our greatest strength, and are a light to all peoples of the world. The terrorists know that if they force us to dim that light, THEY WIN!Just some rambling thoughts. Thanks. Bob

I agree. Many in the media have been talking about stronger security precautions, etc. to "prevent" such things and how such might lead to some dimishment of civil liberties. NO, NO, NO! We don't want to live in a police state. Even police states can't create air tight security. The Soviets learned that a few years back when a young German pilot flew his light plane throught Soviet air space and landed it in Red Square. "The best defense is a good offense". Let's take the fight to the enemy and that way we won't have to tighten security to the point where law abiding American's civil liberties are diminished.
