Steak Seasoning

Okay, I'm a HUGE fan of steak n eggs. I'll cook it up for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Actually, I don't buy steaks. I go to the grocery store and head back to the meat case. I have one of the guys in the meat department take a roast and slice it into 10 slices about 40mm thick. Then I freeze them individually and thaw one or two out per week to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. Then I season one or two, throw it on the George Foreman and fry up 2 eggs.

I currently use Lowry's seasoning salt (just a pinch). What is your favorite seasoning for this type of activity?

JudgeColt--yes...I know it's another food post. is that surprising?

Spice Island Steak Seasoning. Buy it at Sam's Club in the "Cripes, I'll Never Use That Much!" size -- It's the same price as the Safeway "Cripes, I'll Use That In Just 6 Steaks" size.

I'll marinate a good grilling steak. These are just for steak'n'eggs. I'll give Spice Island a try. I also LOVE "Montreal Steak Seasoning" from the spice rack at the grocery store.

A truly good steak is eaten with salt and worceshire sauce, nothing else or you will insult the cook.

We here in Texas have a fajita seasoning made by "Fiesta" that will make a steak taste it's best. Has mesquite flavor and just the right amount of salt. The best I've found yet! It's a powdery seasoning of pure Texas delight! It's good on Fajitas too!
I cook my T-bones with it as well as filets, and chicken. Use mesquite or pecan too get that flavor thats too kill for!
Boy- this sounds like a commercial!!
We aren't into mm in Texas yet- how thick is that? I like my steaks 1 inch thick.

Like I said before, these aren't "grillin' steaks". This is just a cheap quickie fix to curb my steak'n'eggs craving on the weekend. I over-did the mesquite one summer. I was eating mesquite-everything that summer so now I can only have it every so often. I know it's a sin but I don't appreciate mesquite the way I used to.

idsman- tell me it isn't true no mesquite?! O.K. you can choose.
My best for breakfast is a porkchop- very thin with pepper and eggs sunside up. I get the eggs from the ckickens in the evening and are fresh. Hashbrowns (from the potatoe) . Damn- I'm getting hungry!
No kidding- Pecan makes a great steak.

You guys are making me hongreeeeee!

Here in Texas we have food stores that run sirloin on sale for $1.99 per pound, and you can have it cut to whatever thickness you want.

I usually buy 40 lbs. at a time, put several in a good ziplock, freeze them, then thaw and grill as many as needed.

These true Texans (I'm a born & raised Texan too) don't like hardly any seasoning on their steaks. I marinade mine in Prime Choice or A-1 steak sauce, and cook 'em up rare on the gas grill.

As I am currently on a diet to lose 15 unwanted lbs., I haven't had any lately - but bet I will tomorrow !

Reminds me of when I was in a restaurant here, and ordered a New York strip. The waitress brought it, and I asked for steak sauce. She said "you're not going to ruin this perfect steak with sauce are you?"
I replied "Since I'm paying for it, you don't mind if I eat it anyway I want, do you?" She shut up and left --- I had a great steak !

Venison steaks on the grill, no blood, then sprinkle some 7 pepper powder on them. I grow all seven varieties in my garden, dry them for a while, and grind them up until the dust gets me coughin. M,M.

I like montreal steak seasoning and season all.

For a marinade, I use wishbone italian dressing, a dash of worchester sauce, a small amount of olive oil and seasonings listed above. Let that tasty creation char on the grill with some chopped potatos in aluminum foil with oninons and peppers, butter and old bay seasoning. MMMMMMMMMM,....man I'm ready for lunch all ready. Boss man lets me cook deer and other game on the grill outside in the parking lot at work for the office staff/salesmen/drivers. One LITTLE perk.

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

Salt and Pepper and or substitute garlic salt for the plain salt. No other seasoning required to enhance the flavor of beef.

For steak & eggs I'll usually just do a little salt & pepper. If I'm doing them on the grill I'll tenderize them really good, little dash of Lawry's, some garlic powder, worchestershire, wrap them individually, and leave them in the fridge for at least two or three days. That way everything has a chance to soak in good.

I personally make all my own seasonings. Well, one actually, after you try this one you will never want another spice in your life.

Any of you linedog's will know what I'm talking about, also you survivalists.

What you have to do is live or work in the wilderness for a minimum of a week, the longer the stronger. Don't bathe, and do ALOT of strenous physical activity, the more sweat the better. After a minnimum of a week you can start harvesting your very own FROMUNDA CHEESE. Each and every time you will get a different flavor

A touch of Garlic Powder, regular salt and balck pepper. Anything else and you can't taste the steak.

All this talk about steak just made me super hungry!

Tonite I went to Golden Corral, and got the buffet.
They have all you can eat steak here for $7.99, and I must've eaten $50.00 worth ! The guy would only give me 1 at a time, but after I kept coming back, he gave me one that was about 20 oz! Now, I feel like a beached whale, and won't be able to eat anything for a few days (supposed to be on a diet) but my steak craving is satisfied !

Years ago an Italian buddy of mine taught me that in a pinch, Italian salad dressing works great. Just throw the steak on the grill and swab each side while broiling.

Otherwise, I like a nice overnight London Broil marinade on a steak cut about 2 inches thick. Or a good Teriyaki once in a while.

By the way, Italian dressing even works great on cube steak.
