Night-time Coyote hunting

I would like to find out about the finer points of hunting coyotes at night. For example, should you call first, wait a few minutes, and then turn on your red spotlight; or should you turn and leave the light on and then call and wait to see what appears. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It depends on what state you live in, here in NY you can hunt at night with a light so long as you don't have a centerfire rifle.

Get out in the woods and trun a 10,000 candle power spotlite on and all critters around will reveal themselves by their glowing eyes.In KA it's illegal to hunt with spotlites. We did it all the time, but then again we didn't know better.

In SD it is legal to hunt them at not as long as you do not use a center fire gun. That leaves you a shotgun which is bad if you are hide hunting or a .22mag which drops them good if you call them halfway close. It is also illegal to use a spotlight. Best thing to do is hunt when there is a bunch of snow on the ground and it does not take a full mood to see through the scope. Full moon is better of course. The animals cannot see the red light so you can leave it on all the time. Not that I would know by trying it as it is not legal here.Coyotes and other night animals will readily respond to a call at night.

IN TEXAS YOU CAN CALL AT NIGHT BUT, I HAVE FOUND THAT CALLING COYOTES IS BEST IN EARLY MOURNING OR LATE EVENING, JUST LIKE DEER HUNTING.THESE LITTE SONG DOGS CAN SEE BETTER THAN YOU CAN WITH ANY LIGHT YOU MAY HAVE OR CAN BUY.TRY HUNTING THEM WITH IN THE LAST HOUR OF DAY LIGHT TILL THE FIRST HOUR OR TOO AFTER DARK .THIS IS YOUR BEST TIMES,I HAVE HUNG MANY LITTLE SONG DOGS ON THE FENCE HUNTING THEM THIS WAY.

Biganimal check page 18, the section on furbearer hunting of the New York State Hunting and Trapping Guide.*You may hunt at night, when you hunt at night you may:1-Use a Spotlight2-Use a call, including an electronic call3-use a shotgun loaded with #4 or smaller shot4-Use a rifle chambered for a .22 caliber rimfire cartridge5-Use a handgun chambered in any caliber Also check page 10 the section on SpotlightingNow again this is in New York State and all states do their own thing......
