Cutting Floor Tile

I need to cut and shape a piece of floor tile into a distinct shape for an art project. Is there a Dremel tool that will do this? Diamond wheel?

I checked out their site. There is a scrolling tool, but is not recommended for floor tile. I'm going to cut a piece of 18" floor tile into the shape of Texas, then paint it like the Texas flag. I'm going to afix a seal of a state organization I belong to, then coat it with a sealer/polyurethane. Sounds like that would work for the project?

Since you are going to paint and seal it, wouldn't a thin piece of plywood do just as well ?
It will also be easier to shape, lighter and easier to put a hanger bracket on the back if you wanted to hang it.

Do they make a blade for a band saw that would cut tile ?

If you are going to use it as a hot plate holder, that tile would look mighty sharp !!!!

Good luck, and post pictures when complete, please.

    Thanks---Peabo

nice prodject, post picts. when done.. it will work for as little as you have to do. but as u cut, wear rudder and aplie a little water on the tile. or go to the hardwhare store and get a tile nipper. thier like a pair of horse shoe nippers only for tile

If you have a 4 or 4 1/2 inch hand held grinder you can buy a dry cutting blade for it. Got one from Harbor Freight for $10.00, Home Depot & Lowes has them for around $15.00.

Having been frustrated just trying to cut tile around toilet flanges.. Im thinking cutting a piece of ceramic tile into the shape of texas would be even more so. specially with any kind of grinder putting pressure on any given point or recess. Seems it would break very easy. if its going to be painted try wood and a scroll saw or coping saw
