CAMP WILLIAMS - A FedEx employee who allegedly made a joke about delivering a bomb at Camp Williams was charged Wednesday with a felony.

Kevin Coleman, 27, of Salt Lake City, was charged in 3rd District Court with threat of terrorism, a third-degree felony.

The employee was delivering a package to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers trailer at Camp Williams on Sept. 20 when someone asked him what it was. Coleman responded, "It's probably a bomb," according to the charges.

A military police sergeant then evacuated 215 people from the building and surrounding areas.

Coleman later told police his comment was a mistake, the charges state.

If he had said it was probably from some A-hole would they have called a proctologist?

Is the going to far? in regards to the charges or the MPs reaction?

A NEWS story won't accurately portray what took place. Such as his tone of voice or mannerisms. Had a bomb been in the package, and it detonated then folks would be screaming about the MP Sgt being derelict.

In a time when an ARMY Major can walk into a facility on base and massacre a bunch of people I don't know I can say that is going to far.

No one wants to be that guy that dropped the ball, and unfortunately people learn the hard way that you can't just make certain comments or statements in public, around strangers with out risking your safety or freedom.

bombs and "shooting up the place" type comments are just not going to be treated as jokes anymore, especially at Military Facilities. right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

It is a demonstration on just how much terrorists have effected our society.

See the Fed ex man was making a joke and he's no terrorist. Now don't think the NDAA won't label people as terrorists who arn't.

The MP should have just made the FedEx guy take it outside and open it... I wonder if he believes a guy delivering a bomb is going to say it's a bomb....

I think the FEDEX guy should have known better than to say that at an ARMY base.

If you or I had said that at the airport we'd be under arrest. What's the difference?

And yes, if it HAD been a bomb the sergeant would have been FRIED for not sounding the alarm.

People need to keep their teeth together sometimes and not insert problems when they don't need to.

If this FEDEX guy had just SHUT UP there would have been NO incident, no controversy, no trouble.

at this point the guy realized it was a dumb question to begin with, and received a sarcastic answer, so he took revenge

people think delivery personnel, picked it up, wrapped the package, delivered, and are personally responsible for your enjoyment when you open it, or dislike, and for just that moment sometimes think if you tell them, they can reject it before signing

The Fedex guy has no idea what he's delivering. He just has a box and a label that says who it goes to. The MP is a moron for asking him what's in it, a * for choosing to respond to a joke this way just because he can, and should have been charged for inciting panic. Instead, he decided to scare the crap out of everyone, disrupt whatever work was being done on the base, and blame it on the delivery guy. What a gentleman. <---- gentleman is not what I typed.

Speaking of the good old days....

Long ago during my military time I was assigned to a unit which was sometimes tasked with, for lack of a better term, 'testing' security at facilities containing high priority resources.

At times statements were made to gauge their personnel's reaction to insure they operated within directives and each of them knew this could be occurring at any time. No one - delivery uniform and truck or not - could be trusted.

    Nothing really new here.

The FedEx guy was a *, it's as simple as that.

I agree he made a * comment... but a felony-grade joke? There's a good reason you don't see 20 year old package delivery people. They have to labor for years to gain the seniority for a chance at getting that job. They must maintain a spotless driving and legal record to keep that job. Making a joke in poor taste is not what I would consider something that should place what was a model citizen in the same pot as an actual terrorist. Is the new "B-word" so dangerous to speak that it's felony worthy? Come on, the guy will have automatically lost his career by saying one word.

So now if you wear a Fedex uniform in an airport you can be stereotyped.

    and * probed.

I was not there to see the context of the question and answer between the two but I reserve the right to give a smart @zz remark over a smart @zz question.

So far as it being a military base I bet bombs get delivered to them all the time. Not too far fetched.

That should be his defense. That was his best guess at the contents.

Hope the charge goes away for him.

If the guard was really so worried it might be real. and the guy delivering knew it was real. I would take the guy out to the firing range with the package and make him open it. just to be sure. no felony charge needed
