Is there any particular type of wood "spatulas" are made from? Going thru a lot of good wood scrapes in my shop and thought I'd make up a bunch up rather than pitching.

Osage orange? Never figured that. Is there any other use for it?

There are many others concerning utensils made from wood.
    Bamboo is good as well.
Common sense dictates the hardest woods are best for this kind of a job.

    Pine
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

Got any hard rock maple/sugar maple.
That is a good choice as well.

Years ago there was a small manufacturing business in Topeka, Ks. that had quite a business making 'crutches' from Osage Orange (hedge apple).

Fuel wood, fence posts, game calls, smoking pipes, artificial limbs, crutches, insulator pins,
wheel rims & hubs of farm wagons, railroad ties, treenails, machinery parts, archery, bows (Native
Americans), dye from roots, planted for windrows and hedges.

Osage orange was what the Indians used for their bows.

I use bamboo. My parents catered for years and we used big paint stir sticks for stirring all the big pots. I still keep them on hand, rarely have a need for one though.

Mr. Perfect[:)] I'll try the hard maple as I have a lot of that as leftovers. Had a great friend that farmed in Chenoa, Ill. sold the farm 10 years ago and moved into town. But shot many of pheasant along the hedge rows of Osage many years ago.
