In the event of a draft....

You know all of those gangbangers, the guys that are opposed to the law as we know it? I say send the repeat offenders to the front lines, These guys are territorial, and like to kill. Give them a chance. This is their area of expertise! If they are truly mean bad dudes, then they wont object.

I don't think there will be a draft but if there is two things are for sure:1. The law will be written to give the richexemtions for their kids (college, criticaljob skills, Divinity school, etc.) and, 2. There will be massive numbers of peopleignoring their induction notices. Why shouldthey go? Klinton and many others thumbed thedraft and even got elected president.

We also need to send over all the militant racists. They already don't like people with skin colors other than their own. This would give them a chance to use their anger in a constructive way. Also, if they fail and get killed...who cares? What do you think guys?H.

A draft is highly unlikely, but in the event of a draft, I would agree that the deferrments for college students would continue, as would draft dodging.Draft Dodging has occurred in every draft in American History. Read about the New York City draft riots in the 1860's if you don't believe me. In WW II, people also dodged the draft. There has also never been an American draft that didn't offer educational deferrments. I would point out that most of those deferrments become draftees immediately after picking up the sheepskin unless the war is over or the family is very well connected.I understand the opposition to this policy (Like Steve Earle said, "They draft white trash first, 'round here anyway.") but it has been a consistent policy throughout our history, and I would be very surprised if it changed. At least it isn't like the Civil War draft, where you could legally write a check for $300 to be excused from service. Do you know how many of the rich and powerful of that era did exactly that?? While I grant that writing a check for $300 was a lot of money in 1862, it seems to me that the system then was a lot less fair than the system employed in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. However, I do believe that unless a lot of things change, worrying about a draft is about as productive as worrying about a lightning strike to the groin, as one is about as likely as the other.

I served my country for 21 years by choice. And while I believe all Americans should want to serve I do not believe that man's life belongs to the state. Therefore the draft is nothing more than another form of slavery.

When I feel a draft, I just put on a sweater.Otherwise, I'm joining the reserves. I always wanted to, and 9-11 got me into gear.

Gang bangers? Not a bad idea! They can shoot from moving vehicles, have a terrutorial attitude, just plain mean, and own guns. Of course they have illegal guns so they suck!
If you run, you'll just die tired!

I'd go. I'm a college graduate with a 4.0 GPA and would volunteer for Officer training before I got drafted though. In any event, I had the growth plate in my left foot broken at age 6; while it knitted, my foot did not grow. Hence, the left foot is a whole shoe size smaller than the right. Also the cartilidge in my left knee is torn. I wear very thick glasses. In short, I may not be 4F, but I would be second string or desk bound in all but the most dire of circumstances... pity. I'm a very good shot. I don't want to end up in combat. But I would if my freedom depended on it.I doubt we'll ever see a full draft again; maybe a very limited draft.

That's O.K. Jonk! We can snipe the s$$t out of them from a good position if'n you want to be with us old farts. We'll just raise them sights up on our long guns and dust them off before they can get in range with their AK's.If this isn't for us then we can get our draft down at the bar-make mine a Michelobe![This message has been edited by alledan (edited 10-13-2001).]

While it would be a good way to get rid of trash, gang losers would be the last people I would want to see on the front line. Haven't you noticed those POS's hold their guns sideways and miss a lot? 'Tho it would make for less "Ooga-booga" thumpa-thumpa "music" coming from cars on the street. Maybe that's it! Sonic warfare! Once the Afghans hear the sort of trash we all have to listen to every day, they'd give up Osama in a heartbeat!! You might just have something here!!!
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.--Voltare

biganimalI'm with you on that, take me and keep my son home ... but knowing him, he'd drop out of collage join-up and come looking for me.Jon (my son, 19) wants to be a Pilot, an Army recruiter got him excited and talked him into signing up last year saying the Army would pay for his collage if he scored high enough (no emphasis on "IF"), when I told him his chances of becoming a airplane pilot in the army were slim to nil he decided to take some advise (from myself and others), go to collage then go into the Navy or Air Force as an Officer, since he hadn't had his physical yet, with the help of a friend we were able to keep him out of the Army.

Any of you old Marines out there...Didn't the Marine Corps try something like this during the Viet Nam war? "Project 200,000"? Gave the bad guys a choice - Jail or the Marine Corps with a tour in Viet Nam a certainty? Turned out to be a good thing for many of those who returned as their records were wiped clean and they had an HD from the service.

Kimberkid, Try to get your son to check out KU's navy and air force scholarship program. My boy went navy rotc and they paid the bill. He had to pay back time in service by riding planes and ships. He got a good degree and ended up with a job that allows him to buy a lot of guns. Tell your boy to stay in school and if he doesn't believe you I'll give you my sons e-mail so he can get a unbiased opinion.

wundudnee,He's not in any program where he had to make a commitment, he's attending Washburn U. and working to pay for it himself (with a little help fron the old man) and making better grades than he did in high school (wonder why that is???) ... that way if he changes his mind he's not locked into anything.
