Help! FN FAL Versus The M1A!!

The FN FAL Versus The Springfield M1AI bought my M1A awhile back and think that it is a fine rifle. However, I just got a DSA Arms SA58 Standard Model FAL in for a customer. After I took it out of the box to verify the serial number, I fell in love.Talk about a work of art! It shoulders like a dream and feels sweet in my hands!I am considering selling my M1A to buy one of these beauties from DSA Arms. Please tell me if I am crazy, finally thinking straight, or if it doesn't matter. The only disadvantage to the FAL, especially a superbly built one like the SA58 from DSA, is that it lacks the awesome adjustable sight system of the M1A. Brand new, USGI grade 20 round mags for the FAL are about $10, versus the $40 each for the M1A. Think of the money that could be spent on ammo if you went with the FAL mags instead! When you're stockpiling for S Hing TF, the $30 price differance is huge. So, pros and cons of the FAL versus the M1A?

Unfortunately, I've set some firm guidelines for my personal collection:(1) Battle Rifle(2) "Assault" Carbines (AK, AR, Etc.)(4) Handguns(1) Scoped Rifle(1) Shotgun(1) Plinker (10/22)If I don't impose limits on myself, I end up with the "problem" that I had 8 months ago:1. Gun safe crammed past capacity.2. Guns under the bed.3. Guns under the sofa cushions.4. Guns in the closet.5. Guns in the attic.6. Guns in the bathroom.7. Guns in the kitchen drawers.Seriously, it was bad! I've found that my new system is better on the pocketbook and my wife's disposition. So, unfortunately, I have to decide! Can't have 'em both!

Shoot the FAL and see how you feel then. I own both and my M1A is the more accurate of the two. Both are fun to shoot though.

My advice: Wait 2 weeks minimum to decide. If it's infatuation, it will pass by then. If it's true love, buy the FN FAL. I know a number of people who say it's the best .308. There's always another one out there if you change your mind again.

But isn't the M1A really for Baby Evil to grow into? You wouldn't want it to be too heavily worn when you present it to him in another 14 or 16 years, right? :-)

Don't ever sell your M1A. You'd be better off "breaking the rules" and having two battle rifles than dropping the M1A. The M1A is as good as it gets-- it's accurate, reliable, and powerful. You can't beat the sighting system. Admittedly, the FAL has a more modern design, but simplicity is better for guerillas anyway, right?

Got one of each. Love them both. Got two gunsafes crammed, so I bought the third. It`s crammed, but there is only a couple under the bed now! Maybe it would be cheaper to buy a defunked bank and move in?
