From one of the last chapters, where the important 80-ship convoy arrives in France and the National Guard troops get their first glimpse at Europe:
quote:The people who were often seen merely as threats to American jobs had faces and hopes and dreams, all of which were in danger. They were not fighting for a principle, or a political decision, or a treaty made on paper. They were here for these people and others not the least different from those they'd left at home.
I think that those three short sentences sum up every war the United States has ever participated in; for every battle fought to protect the sovereignty of a foreign nation; for every drop of American blood spilled to ensure freedom for every person we have ever defended, anywhere in the world

our forefathers were europeans. what they were looking at might as well have been any of our great grandparents.
Your forefathers were monkeys, remember you are an atheist.
