A quick dumb question

I just bought a Star PD and I know I'm going to need a couple extra shock buffers (they wear out). Where's my best chance of getting shock buffers for an out of production Star? (Without paying 3 prices each...)

If you're talking about those little plastic widgits Wilson's came up with, I doubt you will find them specifically for the Star, that is a rather obscure model. You will probably have to use/retrofit the ones for the 1911. Then, extensively test-fire it! As I recall, the Star is a short-slide number, and Wilson does NOT recommend using shock-buffs on commanders!

You will not find them at Gun Parts. I made an adapter to use the standard 1911 buffs, but they need to be thinned somewhat in order for the slide to reach full rearward travel. If you just dump in a standard buff, you will not be able to lock the slide open. The PD should be operated with a buff in place- that was the designer's intention. I do not use buffs with any other 1911-style pistol. You can thin the buffs by using rubber cement to hold them onto a work stick, like a tongue depressor, and holding them straight to a belt sander. I don't recall the exact measurement that I use, but it seems like I thinned them to about 2/3 of their original thickness.

Yo .250...I have had the same buffer in my tricked commander for 8 years now. The weapon is so nicely set up that it just barely touches that buffer and always cycles PERFECTLY.Wilson might be good, but they don't know everything about everyone's Colt.
