I believe Remington uses a code(2 or 3 letters) for the year of manufacture. It's found on the left of the barrel near the receiver. Can you give us the 3 letters?

Oh, yes: there were 2 types of forestocks: If you have to replace yours, be sure you get the type that fits: one type has a small bolt that holds it to the rifle, and the other is attached at the same point by a large ring that screws down on the tube that the wood rides on. A place like Gun Parts INC carries the latter, but getting the former may be a challange.

Sorry, 7MM. Can't help without the factory barrel. Perhaps the Gun Parts Corp parts catalog will help. It has pictures of all the 760s parts. And, you can always go to their web site and ask questions.

Can give you my personal observations regarding your 760 Remington. It would obviously have been made prior to 1981 as the 760 model was discontinued in 1980; some clean up assembly was done after that date mostly with the 35 Remington caliber. There are also differences in the slide mechanism over the years from time of introduction in 1952. The original design had a solid tube on which the slide handle slid back and forth. The next version had the slide handle affexed to the action bar assembly and this slid back and forth over the action tube; the action tube acted as a "nut" also, holding the barrel lug to the receiver. I am not very good at explaining things and this will most likely confuse you rather than help you. My bet is that you have a 1950's era rifle and I will check later today as there are two of them at my brother's house. I will check the serial numbers and let you know. At least I will try to remember to do this.
