Makarov range report.

Awhile back got a NIB Russian made Mak in .380. After cleaning and lube have had 100 rounds through with NO failures of any kind. Ejection is very positive with cases landing about 10 feet behind. Accuracy is around 2 1/2" at the 50 ft indoor range with a decent rest. Been using both Speer and Federal 90 grn FMJ factory ammo. Double action pull is considerably smoother than when first started. Single stage has some creep with a smooth letoff. Recoil is average for this sized pistol, although the grip does seem to push more straight into the palm. Report is very loud. For a military issue grade, I would say the fit and finish are very good. Decocker/safety works as it should. Sights give a very defined picture, although these are the adjustable kind. Am very happy with the performance and features so far. Will post more after a few hundred more rounds.

My neighbor has one. Swears by it. I have shot it. Not exactly my cup of tea but it shot good and was reliable. For the money they sure are tuff to beat.

Accuracy wise, its hard to beat a fixed barrel. Those little Makarovs are excellent, reliable shooters, but the triggers are usually very heavy.

I have a russian that I found out to be 1 of 2000 that was made for the KGB just before the Russian split. Accurate and dependable as you would want, only complaint I have ever had is the really small front sight. It feeds any ammo I toss in it and so far have never had a FTF, only jam it had was a bad mag spring which was easily repaired. I carry mine and would trust it before many US made semi's, JMHO and 2cents worth

idsman.....Based on my experiences I'd say it's a wise investment. If you want to learn more about them I'd recommend the makarov.com website. It's got a lot of useful info as well as a frequently asked section. If you want a Bulgarian Arsenal in .380 instead of the 9mm Mak caliber I think there's one listed here on GB. I've also seen a couple of Russian ones with the adjustable sight. If I had to pick over I'd be tempted to get the fixed sighted version in .380, less chance of snags during draw, although I don't have that many probs with the one I have now.
