TIME TO RETIRE

If I live long enough and the creek don't rise the last day of this year will end my working days. Third generation of a family run business are taking over and I don't think they want me around anymore. Fourth generation are starting to come in also. Been there through it all. Will have 49 years and 2 months in when I retire. Scares hell out of me and I don't scare easy. I have never known anything but work. Pulled my money out several years ago and now in the process of bringing in the small amount that remains. Have to find insurance for my wife also. She is about 10 years younger than me. Guess I could start chasing women for something to do! Be like an old dog chasing cars. Wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught one but sure would have fun chewing on it's tires!![:I]

Good luck, I'm sure you will find something to do. Maybe you can spend more time on here!

You'll get the hang of it after about a month. Congratulations!

Retirement is harder for some, especially if you run your own business; I would guess in that case it would be hard to let go. For me, I retired early and never looked back. [8D]

Hope you make the transition and enjoy the rest of your days with your wife and family; just watching and grinning! [8D]

I retired 15 years ago and never looked back.

What does the creek rising have to do with it?

Retirement is a big adjustment, but I made the adjustment on my way to the parking lot. [:D]

After I had been retired for about a month I didn't see how I ever had time to work.

I can't imagine Mike ever retiring. He talks about retirement, but I can't imagine him ever leaving the woods he loves any other way than feet first.
Enjoy life. Spend time with your family. Get a hobby. Like my Mom said, "I never knew a person on their death bed who ever said, 'I wish I had spent more time at the office.'"

First off Congratulations ! then get a hobby or find a part time job, I retired in "99 at age 49. Have had several part time jobs since. Currenly work 24 hours a week , every other week. Don't know if this one will last but for the last year it has been ok, I can get off for hunting season and can swap shifts with the other 3 guys if they or I need a day off. My first part time job lasted 3 weeks. Worked an 8 hour shift in a windowless building. Was a nice bunch of guys and girls there but I need to see the sun once in a while. I've known quite a few guys who retire than take a nap (the dirt kind) within a year or two. Hope you have some outside interests to keep you occupied, I know your wife will have a "honey do list" thats been on hold for the last 20 years.

My wife wants me to get my disability started 6 months ago. She's ready for me to sit back and relax. Me. too.
