Unless there is an obscure local or state law in your area, you can legally do a private sell of a firearm. When you send it to the FFL's address, he must do a yellow form when he transfers it to the buyer. That is a legal transfer, but if your name is on a gunshop (doubtful), local (could be), or state (hope you're not in California) list, it will not remove it.Your best option would be to pay a local FFL to ship the gun from you to the buyers FFL. That way all of the paperwork on both ends will be complete. Make a copy of all paperwork and save it. Include the price of using the local FFL in your shipping charges.Be careful not to accept a copy of the FFL where the signature is photocopied. Most require the signature to be a contrasting color. The signature must be signed in ink. Also, do not accept a copy that is not clear enough to be sure that is not tampered with.
